Very good product
The media could not be loaded. This comes with no instructions and at first i could not work out how to get the spindle on the wooden knob. The whole wooden assembly part needs to be raised before the spindle will fit. After this the yarn was wound into neat balls if I kept a light tension and did not wind too fast or allow the yarn cakes to get too big. Hope the video will help other buyers, as I did see that some customers sent item back due to the spindle seemingly not fitting.

A really solid ball winder
This is a really good ball winder. It worked really well, even with some really slippery silk yarn that I had. It doesn't snag, and it was super easy to stop and fix the yarn cake when the winder skipped. There are some parts of the winder that look like maybe they were from the other wood option, but it honestly looks really unique. I like it.It came mostly assembled, I just had to screw the yarn feeder on, and then place the spool on. My only real complaint is the clamp. It works fine, but if your table has any sort of curve at the edge, it wont clamp flat onto it. It still works and stays put, but I really do think that part could have been better designed. But overall I really like this winder. It's easy to use, quiet, and doesn't have the same issues my old plastic one had.

So easy to use
This makes short work of winding balls of yarn. It gives a good ball which is tangle-free. It is much better than winding by hand.

HORRIBLE!!!
I took too long to return it and missed my return date:( This is seriously the worst winder I've ever used. It's beautiful but I've never been able to wind one ball of yarn with it. It's been the source of a lot of frustration. I end up in a tangled mess every time and have to spend a lot of time sorting the tangles out. It seems to me that's it's at an odd angle. No matter how fast or slow I go it just won't work. Look closely at the photos in the other good reviews before you buy. They actually got a ball wound which is better than I did but they aren't wound well! After reading the reviews closer, it seems that everyone is having different problems so I'd say no two were built the same. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

Not worth the risk, damaged, only does 2.5oz before sliding off
This is a decently heavy product, but poorly designed and made. And ironically, some of the "good" reviews seem to not realize that's not how cakes are supposed to look. On refund request of the defective product, the return shipping was $81. As you can see in the photos, this makes a strange oblong ball, doesn't use the whole spindle and mine had several issues. First, the common direction of spinning (clockwise) knocks the nut off the spinner handle. It is not anti-threaded. The knob also doesn't spin so as you wind, you have to let the knob slip in your hand which is tedious and for fast winding, impossible. (Though this, I could have replaced it with a solid pin on the knob if it was the only problem.) The spiral metal pin to hold the yarn on mine spins around. It is not secure. It addition, after one gentle spin, the wood started shaving off at the screw port for the spindle. Due to the odd spinning shape, it doesn't problperly cake the ball for center pulling and made a painful pink and white spaghetti bowl from my first skein when try to knit hands-on.This is essentially a poorly drilled board with hammered in threads for the parts which causes tons of issues.Given the cost, this many problems is silly enough but despite it being damaged in several places, I can only "get my money back" if I pay return shipping to India... which is more than the cost of this poorly designed winder. I used my cheap plastic one for comparison with a 5oz fully wound ball.I did commercial yarn for this experiment, but as a spinner, weaver, etc. for a decade, I wanted to have a sturdier item for constant winding. This isn't it. There is no way this wouldn't obliterate my handspun.
