The little black crimp cover can and often does slip down the cable exposing the metal crimp to scratch your kayak. A fast way to fix this is first remove the black vinyl sleeve and cover with about a 2" section of shrink tubing. Use a heat gun to shrink the tube on the crimp being careful not to overheat the clear vinyl coating. Take your time with the heat gun. Once the shrink tubes are in place you can (with some difficulty) replace the black protector tubes over the shrink tube and crimp. A bit of water helps with this. Once complete you have a very strong retractable lanyard that can't scratch your boat. Even considering the extra work to install shrink tubing I fee these are the best on Amazon.

Super stiff if that’s what your looking for has great retention

I use these for attaching my pliers and bogas to my kayak. I split one of the crimp ends and attach one one directly to my tool with another crimp, then a stainless steel carabineer to attach to my kayak. Has been fine with a 40# striper attached to my boga, coils return to the same position every time.

Good lanyards. They seem strong. Only downside is that the loops on the ends are a little stiff (because the whole thing is steel wire) but they are very useful.

I use these for my fishing kayak to keep all my tools and gear attached to my kayak. They work perfectly and are super strong. I would definitely purchase them again. Great deal for the price.

These are great, and well made. This will give me the piece of mind that I will not loose my tools/gear overboard. Others may have small carabiners, but they are too small to use, and I feel the weak point. You are better to purchase these and add your own that you know will hold!

Use them to secure my regulator and other equipment while scuba diving. The are awesome and much cheaper than name brand scuba lanyards.
