fits vintage national mandolins
Barely fits these, but it works. Couldn't find a case for these for a long time before i found pictures that suggested it might work. I had to compress the foam bit also. The first few times you close it are difficult but it settles in afterward. Hope this helps someone!

Got a great deal on a good brand.
Got a yellow one recently with the "Amazon deal" and paid about 180 for this case. It's your common Crossrock case, well made with nice padding, pockets, etc. Yellow isn't my favorite but it will absolutely do at that price! If any adventures are had with flying/TSA, I will update.

Worth every penny
Not cheap but perfect for protecting my $1k mandolin. Latches possess smooth operation and are secure - I'd venture to say it is water-tight though I won't be in any hurry to put it to the test! The inside keeps your instrument snug and the quality cushioning protects against bumps and jolts. As an added plus, it features two handles, on the top and side which allows for easier off-loading. Definitely worth the price!

This case is not well designed for many F-style mandolins
The case appears to be well made - closes and fits securely, latches all line up and close easily, padding and lining is nice, and the exterior is sleek, with lots of well placed feet and a grab handle on the end. The straps looked nice, though I did not unpack them, coming in a zippered pouch, in the case, that matched the case lining. (Note, the pouch with straps would not in that case if it had a mandolin in it.)I just wish I could feel that this case would protect my mandolins, but the fit is too odd to be comfortable with it.I have a couple of very typical, traditionally shaped and sized F models from Northfield and Eastman. They fit their own cases very well, and can be interchanged and fit equally well in those. I've put them in other cases, as well. This case is large at the bottom, and small at the top. The extra strip of padding that is included is necessary to keep the bottom of the mandolin snug, and it only can be fit on the treble side of the mandolin. The cutouts in the "cradles" for the neck also force the mandolin to the bass side, so the extra padding cannot be placed there, and the headstock (aka peghead) is angled too tightly against the treble side at the end of the case. This puts that F-style headstock scroll/curl, a too common weak spot and point of breakage, too close to the hard sides, with a tuner pressed well into the padding. (See the pics.)The other point to make is that there is really no space other than for picks and maybe tuner batteries in the compartment in the case. It's too small for even a set of strings.
