The part with the bristles, the head is slightly curved. To form/fit to your head when combing your hair. You can't see it in the picture but the head part is curved.

Q: Does hair get caught up or entangled in the groove near the handle?

I did not have a pick on mine but I have also wondered it’s purpose

Q: Does the pick that comes out have a hole in it? I only like those, so i can hang the brush by the handle.

Yes absolutely! It is very easy to remove the pick from the handle. You can then turn it inside out, if you want, leaving the hole empty and the pick sticking out which is how you would use it to section the hair. Happy styling! - Olivia Garden
