A lot of little surprises
This is my first new Windows laptop in nearly eight years; the previous one is a Dell Inspiron 15R that has seen several upgrades and parts replaced but badly needed to be retired. I had intended on getting an Inspiron 15 5510 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD but the price just wasn't right. I settled for this system with the AMD Ryzen 7 and a 512GB SSD.Unboxing the laptop made me think I made a huge mistake. This is much smaller than my 15R. I knew thinness coming into it as well as weight; this is a full pound and a half lighter than the 15R, and that will go a long way in the future (more on that later). It didn't look like a 15" laptop, but it really is.The screen is a touchscreen. I used it only once just to see how it worked. It works. I don't ever intend on using it ever again because I do not like fingerprints on my laptop screen and I don't think a touchscreen is a useful feature on a laptop. It is a higher resolution screen than the 15R but it is not the best in the world. Granted, my M1 MacBook Air has a smaller screen but it is so freaking sharp and amazing, so much so that I think it blows away every other laptop screen on the market. The screen on this is not a dealbreaker; I don't intend on using the laptop to watch Netflix or any TV shows or whatnot. It is going to be used exactly what a computer is intended to be used. The keyboard is really nice. I had destroyed the original keyboard on the 15R and ordered a replacement off Amazon. It was the loudest keyboard in the world and sometimes some keys just wouldn't type. I also could not upgrade to a backlit one (again, another MacBook feature I love). Both the 5510 and 5515 I was looking at had backlit keyboards, and that was a must-have for me. This one is much quieter, exactly how a laptop keyboard should sound. F5 to refresh needed to push the Fn key then F5, but then I learned through Google you can make it so that when you hit the refresh key you can make that a primary function. The power cord is a 65W AC adapter with a much smaller plug; not compatible with what I had for the 15R. I'll be purchasing a second one for travel. I'm not so sure I'll use the USB-C port to charge the battery and power the laptop while traveling. I may end up doing that.In terms of USB ports and all, it's nice that there is an HDMI port, one USB-C, and two USB-A ports. One of the big selling points for me was that it also had an SD card reader. That in itself seems like something many laptops being sold in 2022 are being shipped without, forcing the user to buy a potentially costly SD card reader of some sort or USB-C multi-hub. I wish I had one more USB-A port but that would probably add some weight to the laptop. I'll be buying a pair of USB-A hubs at some point, one for home and one for travel, especially since I need one USB-A for a wireless mouse (though I might look into Bluetooth mice).Weight was another factor in the purchase. I originally had my eye on the 5510 because it started at 3.6 pounds. My 15R was somewhere around 5.1 pounds. Let me say that this 5515 is a pleasure to carry around. As a videographer who travels quite a bit by airline, my travel backpack weighs in around 30 pounds with a reduced camera load, which includes PC and Mac and accessories and your typical toiletries. Making that bag 1.5 pounds lighter will feel real good. I also had an eye on a custom build HP 15t-dy200, which weighed in around 3.8 pounds, but HP has a ton of issues with custom builds as per comments I've seen on Reddit. Finally, expandability. I have a MacBook Air that I regret not having 16GB of RAM, but even with 8GB it is one hell of an amazing machine, one that no PC out there today could match. The Dell Inspiron 15 5515 I got has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. I really wanted a 1TB SSD but settled for the 512GB. The memory can be expanded to a max of 32GB (two 16GB sticks) and I plan to do that in the future. The real kicker is learning that the 5515 (and probably the 5510 as well) has room for a second SSD. I plan to research this a little more because I definitely want to add a second SSD. It's a type of SSD that I had never heard about until I researched it, and I'm pretty sure the second SSD can be no larger than 2TB.Overall, with writing this only 30 hours since it arrived, I really like this laptop. I hope I can get many years out of this like I did with my previous Dell.

Awesome laptop
I purchased this laptop to complete work for a job. I find myself using this laptop daily. The touch screen is a nice feature. I have used this out in the field and in my office and it has given me no issues software or hardware. A great buy for someone looking for a Windows machine.

Good laptop with some caveats
Touchpad clicks from the bottom, major caveat. Otherwise works well, only two USB ports with one USB-C. Fan not as loud and annoying as mentioned in other reviews. Overall good laptop for the money.
