The pump has two speeds … in either case it will shut off when the set pressure is reached.

No, you don't have to hold it constantly. It has that little tab on the handle that you screw to the desired water flow to keep it constant.

Put it at the bottom of the water bag so that the water bag can be placed smoothly

Q: Can bugs get in at bottom? Or is there mesh to prevent?

I don't understand the question, the bag is sealed, if that's what you mean.
