There is no book like this one
Well Mike has attempted to write the unwritable book on complex Array formulas. His videos are great and have a "fun feel" but hard for this to come through in what is a non nonsense practical book on a tough topic. I guess it's hard to write about because so much example detail is required to get across the concepts. But it is an important subject if you are serious about getting into advanced Excel formulas and advanced financial modelling. What a collection of examples it is. And Mike is a guru on formulas if you have ever seen he and Bill Jelen in those Excel Duelling podcasts where they both tackle the same problem in their own ways in blistering speed and Mike's use of native Excel formulas is really amazing. You may not need these kind of formulas every day, but if you have to work with someone else's spreadsheets that you can't change much and need to get a report together in a hurry, you need Array formulas. Or you have written a spreadsheet but your boss wants something at the last minute. Or you need dynamic formulas for interactive models. But you need to have a sound understanding of them or you will get too frustrated trying to get them to work as situations change. This book will give you that understanding, if you work through the book. Also it helps with formulas generally and shows you so many situations it helps with a general understanding of which formula to use when. Other books have array formulas as a chapter but here is a whole book devoted to them with lots of practical examples.I reckon its an important book to buy, digest, and is not bad value as well. But you need to work through the examples with strong expresso on tap given it's practical workbook style. And unless you are an insomniac don't read it in bed like I did a few times, as it will bruise your forehead!

Learning Excel Formulas from Ground Up
Mike has made my career. Period.I have a very specific way of learning. Mike syncs perfectly with my style and will do so with anyone.Mike's is effective because:- He breaks every detail down (Most instructors never seem to accomplish this)- He does not rush but does is not slow either- Mike is patient and teaches in a way that makes complex problems seem easy- Mike will repeat basics even when teaching complex problems. This repetition grills into your head.- Mike is enthusiastic and gives you a vibe Excel is fun. So you are never intimidated by Excel and his enthusiasm will brush on you.- Mike is focused on teaching issues that you will actually use in professional life.I found Excel extremely hard when starting and tried for a year without getting anywhere until I found Mike. He has literally made my career and today's I find myself in the top 10% of the job market as an analyst.I have moved over to advanced VBA programming now but I would have never gotten here if it wasn't for Mike Girvin. This review is the least I could do for you Mike. I love you! It's been couple of years I saw a video of yours (as I can write my own arrays now :) but I will check you out today or tomorrow.

It is highly visual without all of the distracting colors that take away from its focus.
This book has got to be single-handedly, the best organized and laid out, and most useful instructional/reference type books that I've come across in many years. The book covers the most useful array functions and formulas for advanced Excel users, and does it in such a plain, easy to follow and understand manner. Throughout the book, the author is mindful of the reader and how he/she may process an integrate new information. Not only are the example abundant and highly relevant, the formulas are highlighted and zoomed in large fonts so that you don't strain your eyes trying to read all of the details. It is highly visual without all of the distracting colors that take away from its focus. One of its best features is the "Notes About the Formula..." section that follows each of the complex formula examples which breaks down why you might choose to use a particular formula; what it does and how it does it; and in many cases, how it needs to be entered. This is then followed by a Conclusion section, and some comparative cross reference notes regarding the use of the included Function arguments verssus some others. I can't say enough about this book. I really ought to be reviewed more widely so that more Excel users are made aware of what they're missing out on. Thank you Mike "Excelisfun" Girvin for offering such a great product.

Not fully concentrate on CSE formula
The book shows many useful info about CSE formula. However, the authur always recomends using alternative functions, and use many resource to explain the functions, instead of using CSE formula. I would like to learn CSE formula and decide to use them or not myselves.

Lots of good information. The only problem I had was that some of the examples were using functions that I do not use and probably will never use. That's not the author's fault, but lessened the usefulness to me.
