Breville the Perfect Press™ Panini Press, BSG600BSS, Brushed Stainless Steel

See below for second update, same day. Original review: My Breville paninni press just arrived a few days ago. Well packed, easy to figure out. Made the most delicious ham. cheese and Italian bread sandwitch today. Perfectly crisp and evenly brown outside and just right inside and so easy! So glad there are no ridges in the plates. Much better without those deep marks. Fast to warm up, very simple to use, easy to clean. Just perfect! Amazon warehouse deal was an extra plus! Package only had a tiny, slight crease on one corner which was hardly noticeable. So far durability can't be judged but it is working fine now and hope this continues. Two Updates May 19th: Hope was not good enough! Only used a few times total and today, May 19th it would not turn on. Bought Dec 8th. About an hour later, same day, new update: It is working! My husband noticed it has an off-on switch which I hever knew was there, LOL When I moved it, I must have caused the switch to go into the off postion. I was sure it did not have such a switch. So maybe this is what happened to others who think it quit working. Now I am so happy to have my great press back! Hope the same for others who read this, check for an on-off switch on the side.

The media could not be loaded. I really like this press. It doesn't take a lot of counter space, and it turns out a really good grilled cheese sandwich in four-five minutes. It is well made -- as I have come to expect from several other durable Breville products I've bought and used over the years. I like its simplicity. There are no fancy electronic touch buttons to fail, just a simple on/off toggle switch, and a light that goes green when the press is ready. You can make paninis, grilled cheese sandwiches, and melts with it. The heating plates do not detach, but that's not a drawback because dripped cheese won't stick to them. The plates are easily wiped down with a dampened paper towel or sponge once they've cooled.A couple of precautions:(1) Unplug this press after every use. Even a slight, inadvertent touch can toggle the off/on switch to on. If you don't unplug the press, there's a chance you'll accidentally turn it on when you don't mean to use it.(2) The press's metal body gets very hot when the press is in use (another reason to unplug the press when you're not using it). Be very careful to avoid touching the press's metal sides whenever it's on and especially when you're turning it off.

We just tried it out. It worked perfectly. There is intelligent design evident in this product, from the smartly designed plug, and wraparound cord, to the lock, and the compact units ability to be stored on its side, this is one very nice sandwich maker. It made beautiful fluffy sandwiches that were evenly golden, but if it's those ribs or grill marks that you are looking for, this is not the sandwich maker for you. I bought this because I dislike those too crispy and hard panini sandwitches and couldn't be happier with this professional piece of equipment. Very well made and I would buy again.

Got it at 50% discount from treasure truck, so paid $35. Does a great job on paninis. Only thing is build does not feel solid, its a bit rickety but for the price its excellent.

I love gadgets and have a million of them. Most are delegated to the basement storage (not too far but also not on hand). The appliances that get to stay in the kitchen must earn their place. This one has! I use it less for sandwiches than I do for grilling veggies but it does a very nice job with that and I can run an assembly line of veggies to grill. It also does a fine job of toasting tortillas out of the fridge. The most important thing I learned is to make sure that the veggies are all the same height - otherwise sone get toasted while others not.Last night I took it out on the table and let my guests assemble a quesadilla with grilled veggies and cheese and then heat it on the Breville. Worked well for a party of 3 and everyone got exactly the ingredients and amounts of their choice. Cleanup was a breeze. And now I’ll tuck it away inside my cabinet.Update: still going strong after a year. Last night I made chicken tender satay (no skewers needed). It’s a great size for me and doesn’t take a lot of space. I can cook right outside on the table. Cleans up easily with a damp cloth or paper towels.

No grill plate. Just smooth griddle. Griddle plates do not remove for cleaning. Pictures are deceptive. Look closely! Returning product!

Bread or tortillas, it works grear.

Returned. Vertical standing very unreliable. It did look great. The vertical standing was an attractive feature with a small footprint. Other Breville products work very well. Disappointed
