Clearspring Organic Japanese Ume Plum Seasoning Gluten Free 150ml

I read another review and want to emphasise that this is NOT the kind of hoisin plum sauce used for Peking duck. Slightly comparable to vinegar, this Japanese Umeboshi Plum sauce is a taste sensation that, understandably for some, is a surprise and takes some getting used to. For some, like me, it will be an ambrosia-like taste from the first drop. I've enjoyed umeboshi sauce for years on udon and similar noodles, rice, sushi and in salad dressings and soups. I've even added it to softened butter and used that to cook steaks. Apply sparingly as it has a high salt content and bold flavour. There is zero sweetness to it. The flavour is unique and has to be experienced to be understood.

Love it, love it, love it! It satisfies my taste for the 'umami' flavour which I would describe as tarty savoury (like a tasty tomato). A little goes a long way and you can use it to liven up cheese dishes etc in place of lemon juice

Love this product and have been buying it from Amazon for quite some time as none of the retailers stock it - they used to - but not anymore. If you follow an acid-alkaline balanced diet - this is an alkaline and I use it mainly for seasoning salads and particularly egg dishes as a salt substitute.

I have used umeboshi paste but found it too strong to use without overpowering everything else, but this is perfect. It adds a really distinctive edge to food but doesn't overpower by any means. A fine addition for a cook.

I thought this was plum sauce. It is not. It is the saltiest thing I've ever tasted. It ruined the taste of my meal. Perhaps this is exactly what it is supposed to taste like, but I threw it out... I guess I don't often cook things and think, "I wish this tasted more like very salty plums."

This is delicious on vegetables and can be used in many ways.
