The AS550 is a cheap-skate. I would not even say it’s a beginner skate. Since I think a beginner may benefit from a better skate without having to learn to compensate for a low end model.The boot is stiff and roomy. While I had the right size I found I could not get them tight enough because the boot won’t budge enough. (hockey skates are typically a size to size and a half bigger than shoe sizes so plan accordingly)That being said it’s a great alternative to a rental skate. If you intend to skate more than 4 or 5 times this skate will feel more comfortable and glide better (you can make sure they have edges).

My son bought these a bit big so he can grow into them. he is wearing three pairs of socks this year and loves them.

Get a size up.

This was my first ever skate and I’m pretty happy with it. After renting at a local Ice rink I could tell I wouldn’t progress so I decided to get my own pair and pick up a new hobby. I love these skates because they allow my oddly shaped foot to feel a slight bit of comfort while falling over on the ice. The sharpen it comes with is decent and I couldn’t complain but I sharpened it to 5/8ths after about 30 hours of skating on them. If you’re looking for a stiff boot without breaking the bank i highly suggest this one. And they don’t look half bad either. I have no worries about having to replace these in the upcoming years. Thumbs up from me!!
