A grisly, gory apocalyptic story well told.
I had not heard of this novel before. It starts a bit slowly and then builds up beautifully. It is an apocalyptic novel set in medieval Europe haunted by the plague. It is battle between god and evil with two protagonists leading the way - and old knight and a young angelic girl. This has a lot of gore and violence. Even Banks would be proud of it, I guess. overall, much recommended to those who can tolerate a bit of gore.

One of the best novels I have ever read, period
I don't call it the best novel I've ever read lightly, it's honestly some of the weirdest dark fantasy I've ever read. It's weird, haunting, and sometimes hilarious, it's a must read for people who like something new and different, and also someone who has an interest in European history.

Incredible
I haven't read something this good in a while. The Paris arc might stay with me as the most remarkable bit of horror writing I've read. The monsters were scary, the temptation to sin was great and the ending nearly made me cry. A must read for anyone even slightly interested in horror/fantasy.

Handsdown, one of the best books I read so far
Character arc, clear description of the events and true to life conversations between characters make this novel a masterpiece…..epilogue made me cry....what a beautiful ride it was...
