Works well for what it is intended
Purchased this, along with a FlightAware ProStick Plus, Raspberry Pi 4, Pi 4 power supply and the ElectroCookie Raspberry Pi 4 Case to create a FlightAware feeder site - the whole system went together easily and worked first time; I now watch flights from my local airports, the Global Airlines A380 and air ambulance from my own system - excellent!

Small but not magnetic base
The antenna is advertised as having a magnetic base, but unfortunately, mine did not come with one. While this may not be a deal-breaker, it's worth noting, and I deducted a star for the discrepancy between the product description and the actual contents. Despite this minor hiccup, the absence of the magnetic base did not significantly impact the overall performance. In terms of signal reception, this antenna delivers commendable results, especially for a starter option designed for indoor use. Using it with my Raspberry Pi3b+ and FlightAware Pro stick, I was able to receive aircraft signals up to 100 miles away. The 3-meter cable provided ample length for my setup, allowing for flexibility in antenna placement. It's crucial to mount the antenna as high as possible for optimal performance, as is the case with most ADS-B antennas. The 5DBi gain contributes to an impressive range, making it a suitable choice for those starting with ADS-B tracking.Given its affordable price point and decent performance, I would recommend the 5DBi 1090MHz Antenna as a solid choice for beginners. It serves well as an introductory antenna until users become more familiar with ADS-B tracking and may choose to upgrade to a larger antenna in the future. In summary, despite the minor discrepancy with the magnetic base and as a starter antenna, the 5DBi 1090MHz Antenna offers great range for indoor use and provides a cost-effective solution for those venturing into ADS-B reception.

Great value, 200+ mile range
I was going to knock a star off as it's NOT a magnetic base. But I can live with that.Antenna is indoors on a northeast facing windowsill with a mountain to the south of me. As you can see from my stats in pics I'm getting coverage out to 250 miles in one direction and around 50 miles out to the south because I have a hunk of rock in the way.So position is everything. If you're getting poor results, move the antennae. If it can see the sky then you'll get great range. If this was outdoor rated I wouldn't bother getting another antenna. It's brilliant for the money.Edit: I've since upgraded this to a flightaware antenna. Big improvement. But this wee antenna is well worth buying. Pihut to see it for a fiver.

Great for FlightAware Pro Stick Plus
Working great with FlightAware Pro Stick Plus, even while testing on a window sill indoors. Mine did come with a magnetic base which is very handy as the antenna doesn't have a heavy base.

gives worse performance than the telescopic antenna provided with most DVB ...
This is a rubbish antenna, gives worse performance than the telescopic antenna provided with most DVB stick tuners. The picture below shows a comparison between telescopic antenna (retracted to minimum length) and this antenna each installed for 1 week. A third fewer positions reported once this was installedThe reason it gives such poor performance is because it is the wrong length, it is not the correct length to receive at 1090Mhz, so clearly this is being mis-marketed and is probably actually produced to receive different frequencies. You would get better performance from a piece of bent wire inserted into the socket of your tuner, assuming the wire was cut to the correct length.

It's all about elevation and line of sight.....
The antenna is small but appears well constructed. The cable is micro RG174 co-ax and at 3 meters in length probably doesn't attenuate the signal that much. It does have a magnetic base but the magnet is very weak so it won't remain on top of your car if you "go mobile".Performance wise it is all about the position of the antenna. At ground level in a built up area, in my case around 70m above sea level but close to Manchester airport and using the FlightAware Pro Stick, it only picks up planes that are pretty much overhead and the odd plane at altitude. However taken to higher ground - some 250m above sea level with a clear line of sight to the West coast it picked up aircraft from 150 miles away and helicopters flying low level near Shawbury around 60 miles away. In fact it pretty much picked up everything within a 100 mile radius including the grass cutters at Manchester airport and low flying military Hawk jets off the coast of Anglesey. So in summary it works if its got line of sight to the aircraft, if not, it probably won't pick much up. It needs to be mounted as high as you can get it and unless you live in an elevated position or close to an airport you might be disappointed by the performance. However even much more expensive co-linear antenna's will struggle if the conditions aren't ideal. I bought it for mobile use in elevated locations and as a bench test antenna - for that it's fine but for less than ideal locations it will probably disappoint.

Not magnetic base(?) but works fine...
Advertised as having a magnetic base - as received it didn't have one - however, due to the requirement for the aerial to be orientated as vertically as possible, actually ended up hanging it by a thin thread from a beam in the loft using the weight of the base to keep it vertical. Unless wanting to be used with a car exterior, can't imagine the magnetic base being particularly useful.... (YMMV).Used with a Raspberry Pi/FlightAware ADS-B receiver - in about 1 week, picked up over 3,000 aircraft 100-150m away - even 45 aircraft 250miles+ - so seems to be working ok as a cheap initial aerial before upgrading to a better one...

Good in door Antenna
It's easy to put some where with it's magnetic base. Don't expect it to be as good as an outdoor Antenna but still pretty good if put near a window for best results.
