Perfect for Thanksgiving
This beautiful spoon dressed up the bowl of raspberry-cranberry salad I brought to our Thanksgiving gathering. The salad was pretty anyway, but I served it in a clear plastic bowl, not wanting to tote glass or crystal to and fro. In my anxious little mind, the spoon stood out. I really hate to put it away!

A retro serving spoon that fancies itself as a ladle. Is it the perfect vintage scoop for leftovers?
For this review, I decided to compare this retro shell veg spoon to the standard serving spoons that I already use (see picture.) It is the same length as my standard serving spoons but it has a pronounced arch to the handle, which I could not tell from the picture, this means that it will not stack well below my other serving spoons but it stacks very nicely on top of them. The arch to the handle continues into the belly of the spoon which makes it into something like a small ladle, so I tested how much liquid it can hold and it holds exactly double of my standard server, which is half way to being a ladle. The rounded belly also means that it will scoop up a lot more, and it really does, maybe not so great for portion control.I also weighed it against my other spoon and it weighs 30% more, but I like the weight of it, and the handle has a pleasant grip from the hammered surface, and it does not feel heavy.Something about the smooth scalloped/shell design and the hammered handle clashes from a design perspective, but I think that just adds to its retro charm, and like the way the hammered texture feels in my hands, so I am going to chalk that down to function over form, and of course a vintage aesthetic. As for the function of the scalloped spoon itself, it acts like little channels that direct anything runny into the deepest part of the spoon, and it helps with digging out food from hard to reach corners, it is already the go-to serving spoon for that reason. What’s important is that I know it will get used, and because it has a ladle-like shape and a nostalgic design it will be my go-to for serving myself everything from large portions of leftovers to straws and curries and everything else. Yup I love it!
