Turned into pond accessory.
Heavy and nice. The red wasn't bright enough so I hit it with spray paint. I removed the flapper inside so the pond pump could freely let water flow. The treads on the bottom worked well just add some plumbing tape and your good.

This was a gift. My brother wanted it for his country home.

There's a learning curve, but I would buy again.
PROS: 1) The pump was properly packaged and arrived without damage. 2) The lower check-valve flap is made of silicone instead of leather, so the flap should last longer. 3) The pump works as advertised. 4) This particular model is slightly taller than similar pumps I found online from other vendors at a similar price-point.CONS: 1) The lower check-valve flap weight was not mounted so some assembly is required. After installing the lower check-valve flap on the pump base, ensure you center and properly tighten the upper pump body to the lower pump base, otherwise you risk an air gap that could foul the air-tight integrity of the pump resulting in the pump not functioning (trust me!). 2) The female threads at the bottom of the pump base were not cut correctly. The lower portion of the threads were too shallow so they did not properly grip the male threads of the pipe. The upper portion of the pump base threads did properly grip, but there are only 2-3 threads making that connection. Because of the few threads there I had to be careful not to over-torque the pump base when screwing it onto the pie so as to avoid stripping the pump base's threads. 3) The nuts on the pump handle bolts shake off the bolts after using the pump for a short while. I recommend adding lock washers to those bolts to prevent the bolts from working free of the handle. 4) The small notch on the mouth of the spout that's meant to hold a bucket handle is cut very shallow. The result is that a standard 5-gallon bucket with a small plastic grip-handle tends to roll of the pump spout unless you're holding the bucket handle in place. 5) The manual is poorly written (bad english and labeling). One other observation to be aware of (not really a CON). The pump handle can be uncomfotable to operate. This stems from the combination of the narrowness of the handle in your grip, the shortness of the handle from the bottom end up to the pivot point, the amount of force required to move the handle, and then the quantity of times it takes to repeatedly cycle the handle to lift the water in the pipe (in my case it's 15') and then pump out the desired amount of water. My work around for this has been to stick a short 2' section of pipe on the handle when pumping. This effectively lengthens the handle from grip-point up to pivot point so less force is required to push/pull. Additionally, since the pipe is broader than the pump handle, this gives me a more comfortably-sized surface on which to grip when I'm operating the pump.Overall I'm very happy with this pump. It took a bit of a learning curve to ensure I had it properly assembled and that I properly primed it. Now that I'm a little smarter on what's involved in buying, assembling, and operating this well pump, I would absolutely buy this model again.

Excellent in Case of an Emergency
Thinking about what could happen if we had a power loss made us realize that we would also be without water. We have a shallow well and the pump is of course powered by electricity. In the state we live in there are storms, hurricanes, etc and we can be without power for hours or even weeks. With this pump we have installed as an axillary to our regular pump. true it may be manual power but we will at least have water. The workmanship of this item is excellent and should last us for years. We looked up plans online to do the actual hook-up and afer a quick trip to a hardware store to pick up the fittings and such it was no problem installing. We are very happy with our purchase and recommend this product.

Converted to water pond spitter
I would not recommend this as an actual hand pump. The materials are lower quality and it has some leaks that cause this black looking rust stuff to settle around the bottom.I converted it to a water pond feature and it works very well for that. Love the red!
