MATLAB for Brain and Cognitive Scientists (Mit Press)

This book is an excellent companion text to Cohen's other text "Analyzing neural time series data" because this book gives additional insights in how to use and program with Matlab to do the analyses of in the 'time seriess data' text.

Subject line says it all!

I wish this book was available earlier. I am constantly learning new things in a fun and educative way! The more I read this book, the more I understand code that was scaring and unapproachable for me before. Mike is an excellent lecturer and this can be reflected in his writing style. The book is filled with small jokes that come out of the blue and might have you laughing on your own while reading a technical book in a quiet library! For example, Mike is teaching the notion of functions by having you type a function called mikeisANiceGuy. This might look simple but when I had to write a function of my own and tried to recall the general formula of output = function_name(input), I only did that by recalling the funny-named mikeisANiceGuy.Moreover, this book goes hand to hand with the "Analyzing Neural Series data" by the same author. After reading a couple of chapters from MBCS, I went back and looked at the code that accompanies the "Analyzing Neural Series data". The difference was immense! I could read and understand the code much faster than I did the previous time.All in all, this is an excellent book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get up and running with brain data.

This book is incredible. An introduction to quantitative neuroscience AND Matlab, written with personality, sample code, and lots of illustrations? Yes please! I just wish it came out before his other book Analyzing Neural Time Series Data, because that covered much more difficult material with less explanation of the basics.
