Q: How can this be sold for such an outrageous price?

Best we could tell it's b/c only one available on the market. We were able to get our medical insurance to pay part of the cost as a durable medical device with prescription from the physician. Same with the knee scooter.

Q: Can it be used to keep weight off the knee (to avoid torn meniscus pain)?

Absolutely! The knee rests in the sling which keeps all of the weight off the leg! It was a lifesaver for my friend who had a broken ankle and couldn't bear weight for several months. Greatly improved her mobility.

Q: Is the item I am looking at the exact item I will be receiving?

Yes. I got one for my walker when I broke my ankle and it helped immensely. (walker not included, lol)

Q: Does it work for the right and for the left side, or do we need to specify which side?

It works for either side. My husband's left leg was amputated in Sept. '17 and he has a prosthetic on his right leg which was amputated Jan. '15. I would not be able to care for him without the kneeler.
