Q: How does it stay on? Is it magnetic?

No it’s not magnetic. It sits on top of the wood burner and the heat generated through its foot starts the fan off when it reaches a hot enough temperature. The fan continues until the heat in the stove has gone.

Q: Can this be used on a small wood burner where the flu comes out to the rear.

Yes, it is heat that causes the fan to activate. Having seen inside it seems to have a thermo switch which, when a certain temperature is achieved, turns on the rotor. The position of the flue is irrelevant. Just stand the fan on the stove and when it gets hot off it goes. Works pretty well too.

What is the question? I returned mine and had a replacement in about three days.

All fans operate by transferring the heat of the wood burner, into expansion and contraction this creates the energy to move the fan blades. I have two they are both in similar sized rooms, they are used to circulate heated air. The real job is to keep your woody hot they will do the job as described. My fans are supporters of efficient woodys, mine have 4 blades. There is a thin plastic coated cable on the motor so you cannot place them on really hot surfaces like cooker rings, mine start turning whilst the kindling is flaming, they are positioned at the side of the chimney
