Provides a better, richer flavour for baking cakes, than vanilla essence does..

Vanilla is not a cheap flavouring for the proper extract and even making your own is pricey when you count up the cost of the pods and the 40 proof alcohol needed. This time I decided to try brandy as a base spirit, and also the more usual vodka one. This package of '20' pods was ideal as I could use half the pods for each bottle. The pods smelt so sweet and fragrant when the package was opened and they were all plump, soft pods. I split or scored each pod lengthways to release the vanilla flavour and put 10 pods in the vodka bottle. Then I started doing the same with the brandy bottle and counted 13 pods - a bit of extra value and flavour getting 23 pods altogether. It will be a while till it is matured enough to use but have made it before and it makes a lovely essence; if you bake a lot it is definitely worth making your own. I also decanted some of my well matured essence into a smaller bottle for a friend as part of her Christmas present and she was delighted with it.

I bought these and added them to an old bottle of whisky I had lurking in the cupboard. To make my own vanilla extract. I was so disgusted with supermarkets greedily hiking the prices up. So these are expensive but i ended up with 3/4 bottle of whisky vanilla extract . Should be bourbon but it was what i had.

Great vanilla pods and very good value for money compered to the supermarket ones. I bought these pods to make home made vanilla extract and they are brilliant. I have used 6 pots for 300 ml of unflavoured vodka and it already smells delicious. I will definitely buy them again.

The pods are very small. I use pods to make vanilla extract with vodka. Usually I used two pods, but this time I’ll be using all 4 and I’m not even convinced they are equal to the two I usually use. But they smell good and otherwise appear find.
