Best of all the Baker Exegetical books I've read so far
I thought it would take me years to unravel some of the mysteries of Romans and instead this book alone did most of it. Thomas Schreiner has probably written the best commentary ever where you see the overall flow of Paul's thought. That really is the best part of this book. You walk away feeling like an expert on Romans because Schreiner is so often trying to find the answers from within Romans itself. I have reviewed five other Baker Exegetical books and this is hands down the best so far. Let me list my favorites that I find to be the best Baker Exegetical books in order: 1st: Romans/Schreiner, 2nd: Revelation/Osborne(Osborne falls apart on dispensational issues and issues relating to Israel but his commentary is thoroughly deep in information to warrant 2nd.) 3rd: Mark/Stein(This book is flooded with speculative liberal theories that weigh down the book but is very good nonetheless...see my review for it.) 4th: 1 and 2 Thessalonians/Weima(This book falls apart on dispensational issues on chapters I consider key to the Thessalonian epistles 1 Thess.4 and 2 Thess. 2. but the book is wonderful regardless. and 5th: 2 Corinthians by Guthrie. Despite landing in 5th all these books are good and I hope to write reviews on all the Baker Exegetical books and list my favorites in order when I'm done.

True to Reputation
On the website [...], this is ranked as one of the top 2 commentaries on Romans. While I haven't read the other, so far this one has met and exceeded my hopes and expectations.Dr. Schreiner is an accomplished exegete, and is careful to make his arguments in light of the Greek text and other portions of Scripture. He is also very familiar with the other literature on Romans, and interacts with the work of others where it is called for. Thus, reading this commentary enlightens you not only on Dr. Schriener's understanding of the text, but also what many other scholars have said and why. That said though, the text is anything but dry. Dr. Schreiner throughout is seeking to lift up the glory of God and the grace of Christ. Some of the insights I've gained from this text, specifically Paul's understanding of his calling and the grace surrounding it, has deepened my reliance upon God in all things.I'm very grateful for this commentary, and I recommend it to you for your spiritual edification, growth in the knowledge of God, and comprehension of this very important letter of Scripture.

Exceptional Commentary
I have barely used the commentary thus far, but for the topics I have used it for it is exceptional. The care with which the Koine is handled is refreshing, and the insights that Schreiner brings to the the table are superb. Those who are familiar with the BECNT series would expect nothing less. I look forward to using it in my further studies of Romans and hope my humble opinion may influence others to purchase this particular commentary. Just a side not though; this is an exegetical commentary, so it will present some Greek to you (though not as much as I have seen in others). While I myself am not a Greek scholar, from what I have observed through comparative word studies and such, it seems to be accurate in it's interpretation. If one is looking for a more pastoral-ish (I know not a real word) commentary then perhaps they should look at some expositional commentaries as opposed to exegetical.

A Must On Romans!
Along with Moo, get this commentary! Schreiner is so solid and scholarly. I also have his work on 1,2Peter and Jude in the NAC. This NT scholar is so good. His approach to scholarship reminds me of Dr. Moo. Both are really good. Schreiner does his own translation, and for me that is what makes this commentary so outstanding. If you appreciate adeptness in NT Greek, you'll appreciate this volume. But at the same time, Schreiner makes this simple enough for the person who doesn't understand NT Greek to get by.This should be in every pastor's and anyone who's looking for the best work on Romans collection. Get this one!

Essential For Pastor's Library
If you are a pastor, seminarian or scholar it will greatly, greatly behoove you to avail yourself of the keen exegesis, theological and practical insight that this commentary on Romans offers. I am a D.Min. student writing on Romans 6 and 7 issues and I often found Schreiner to be the most articulate of commentators, though Cranfield is often as good exegetically and Murray is often as good theologically. It is also current enough to deal with the New Perspective issues. My only caveat is that I didn't always find the layout of the commentary to be user friendly. If you are looking for his comments on a particular verse it may take you a few moments to find it because he walks through the exegesis following Paul's flow of thought. This often helps you follow his argument but makes it difficult to track down a comment on a verse quickly.

Best Romans Commentary to date
I love this commentary, it is simply the best commentary on Romans. I had to buy this commentary for a Romans class at Liberty University (also had to buy the Encounter Romans book by Douglas Moo). When I saw the book (800+ pages) I was overwhelmed by the prospect of reading this within a 8 week period. I have never read through a commentary before this but I was pleasantly surprised by the readability of the commentary. I would recommend this to anyone as I would any of the other Baker Exegetical Commentaries. I now have the one on Acts and another on Phillipeans. BUY THIS IT IS WORTH IT!

Wonderful and Thorough
If you want something deeper than this is for you. One of the best in the series. Highly recommended and understandable. Relies on Greek language and very clear exposition with notes.
