American DJ Supply FS-1000 Stage Light Unit

This has been a great followspot for our little cabaret style theater.The only downsides: No actual on and off switch. It needs to be unplugged or run through a powerstrip to turn it off. Also, when using the gel frame attachment it causes the light to be unbalanced and front end heavy.Update 10/2/14:We had this light in our local community theater. While it was easy to operate for the most part, there were a couple of major issues.The color changer attachment made the unit extremely front end heavy and there was no way to adjust the yolk to compensate. The dimmer is nice, but there is NO actual on and off switch. It's on when plugged in and off when unplugged. Volunteers who were unable or unwilling to read the warnings I put on it, broke the knob and ruined the light within the first year.If there is only one person dedicated for operating this, I can see it being very good. Not for us though, as much I had initially thought however.When we contacted Squaretrade about the warranty they did refund the cost without hesitation.

Absolutely love this spotlight, it works really well in our medium-sized auditorium. The floor distance is about 60 feet, and had the spotlight in the balcony. Super bright, did it's intended job to perfection.We used to rent the lights and paid half the cost of this for every production we did. Sure we got bigger lights with different colors and lenses, but all of that was overkill. This light puts an adjustable-sized spot right where we need it.Seems sturdy and well made, though we have only been able to use for one event and now it is in storage until our Easter program. Cost savings is tremendous, and I don't think I could be happier with it. We will probably end up buying a second and having a double spot, but the program we did didn't require that. Soon I'm sure!

Certainly adequate but not perfect but I did expect it to be brighter. Works in a small venue for a followspot 'effect' but can't hold it's own against other stage lighting. We had to supplement it's abilities with gaffer tape and a pair of vice grips to keep things in place. Be aware that the air vent louvers direct excess light out the front and not the back so audience sitting in front of the fixture will get some spill, unless some black wrap or piece of cardboard is hung in front of the vent without blocking airflow.

not very bright at all, it basically does nothing after 60 yds

This spotlight was bought for our school to use in our giant auditorium. I paced it off and the stage is about sixty feet from the balcony. The picture is of the spotlight at about 2/3's it size. It is a little loud with the fan and I was worried for the kids who ran it that they would burn themselves because as other reviews stated it does run hot. But it was a great light, no one hurt themselves, and it did its job well. I would have liked it if it were a little more powerful but it was bright enough to get the job done even for our big stage. You could feel it on the stage when it was on you and it really helped to make scenes more dramatic. There is a lever on the side that focuses it and the lever on the top makes it grow and shrink. I would not have put the lever on the top myself since that's where the thing heats up so if you have kids running it, they have to be careful not to rest their hand on the spotlight when making the light grow or shrink. Our kids did fine with it, though. I would buy the extra adaptor for this light. Some reviews said it didn't come with one so I bought the recommended on that was about eight bucks. I was glad I did, even though this one did come with one. This one's was a flimsier plastic and the one I bought extra was metal and much beefier. I felt more comfortable with the heavier duty adaptor for the stand. Also, the bolt placement for the adaptor to the light wasn't the best or most specific thing but I figured out a way to mount it. All in all a good buy for our program.

WE now have two on the floor and one suspended and they work great. Just what we need at the right price and easy enough for kids to operate.

TOO DIM• I bought this American Dj Fs-1000 Follow Spot especially for a wedding father/daughter spotlight dance and the light was too dim to see anything more than about three inches away from the unit.• I tried every setting, every adjustment available, NO GO.• Get a high intensity $8 LED flashlight instead -- it would put out a much brighter beam.TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY and disappointingI tried the American Dj Fs-1000 Follow Spot, boxed it up and returned it

Okay for the price, but not really "as bright as 1000 watts"!
