Excellent, impartial accounting of what we have understood and created about God. What is 'God ordained' and what is 'man made' for his own gain? Allows you to make your own conclusions based on the reality of history rather than the spin by religious men adapting the Word to their own needs. Very well researched and explained. I would recommend this to any 'seeker with an open mind'.

Everyone who has the faintest interest in religion should read this eminently clear and readable history of the Abrahamic faiths. As an agnostic I find this allowed me to both appreciate and understand the faiths, as well as to make sense of religion in both a philosophical and historical context. Plus it is just fun and makes the potentially dry subject matter come alive.

I got this as a gift for my dad - he's a devout Christian who has had a hard time understanding my religious wanderings (he and I don't see eye-to-eye on a lot of things surrounding spirituality). I was looking into other monotheistic religions at the time and he kept asking a lot of questions. I don't think he particularly liked the book - I'm not sure he even read it. Still, from the bits I read of it, it is worth a read if you are interested in the subject matter.

Excellent book to know the evolution of the concept of God.

She gets a little deep into the weeds. To many details I will never remember. The case they send the CDs in is very cheep and resulted in my last CD being damaged in my car before I could listen to it. Very sad.

I got this as supplemental material for a class and listen to each chapter about four times for each one read. It's a great way to really get the information into my thought process while I'm commuting a million miles per week in my little Nissan.If you are into audiobooks and can handle Armstrong, this is a must have.

Easy reading explaining how each one of three religions has developed over time. Karen Armstrong offers a clear and objective perspective to where the current concepts and beliefs come from. Recommend it to anyone beginning to study the origins of religions.

Just got the book. Unfortunately, it is used. At least one name and possibly two have been marked out inside and a strange label is on the back that says Box 24 and the jacket is quite worn. I don’t mind and it’s great to “reuse” but I was charged the price of a new book.
