Does it have an external mic jack?

No, it doesn't appear to have an external mic jack, but that hasn't been a problem for my purposes. It picks up sound very well. It has two mics (stereo) on the front under the lens.

How is the quality of the audio?

No complaints here. Audio picks up very well...matter of fact in some cases too good.

how long will it record for ?? how many hours??

Depends on three things:* The size of the SD card* The Image setting * The Quality setting This can be a little confusing because both the image and quality settings include the word "quality."The image setting ranges from "Long Time LP", "Standard HQ", "High Quality FH" and "Highest Quality FX." The Quality settings range from "STD Quality", "HD Quality" and MP4. Image settings only work when Quality is set to HD Quality. I currently have a brand new 32GB SD card installed, image setting of "Standard HQ" and quality setting of "HD Quality". With this card and these settings, system recording time shows 7 hours and 40 minutes. When I change the Image setting to "High Quality" (from Standard HQ), time drops to 4 hours 19 minutes. Changing to Highest Quality goes to 3 hours 9 minutes. When recording I always make sure the Quality setting is set to HD Quality. Menu specifies that setting to STD Quality is for archiving to DVD video, and setting to MP4 is for quicker sharing online or with mobile devices.I have been very happy with my recordings with an Image setting of "Standard HQ" and a Quality setting of "HD Quality." Playing back from the camera through the HDMI output to my high definition TV, the results are excellent.Hope this isn't too confusing.

Does it have live hdmi pass-through?

This Sony camcorder do have HDMI (micro) OUT but it is not for pass through. -Ely
