"Mother. mother, in the name of God, I know something terrible is about to happen..."
Captivating account of how two siblings (Olive and Lorenzo) survived a Native American attack in the desolation of what is now known as Oatman Flats, Arizona. Interesting to think about how one individual's life can come to be valued at "six pounds of white beads, four blankets, two horses (one of which was to be white) and various trinkets." If these are two of few people to acknowledge their experience as victims at the hands of Native Americans in the Old West, I'd certainly enjoy reading more about this subject and the harrowing exploits of the others that lived to tell the tale.

Very interesting
This read is very interesting, informative, thought provoking, and leave you wanting more information about the native abductions. There is so much we still don't know.

Family massacred
A very interesting accounting of the events leading up to the Oatman massacre. The leaving for dead the brother who never gave up hunting for his sisters. The abduction and the living conditions of the sisters.

Fascinating
Such an interesting and sad story. Pulled together from various sources - poor Olive had such a difficult life. Torn from one family to the next-repeatedly.

A very good compilation of that has been sourced from many books
A very good compilation of that has been sourced from many books. Very quick read. When i first saw the cover i thought "That had to be where The AMC show Hell on Wheel got that tattooing from" I was right and it is mentioned in this book. The Charles River Editors have once again done a great job on another piece of history.

Great information but hard to read
This short book was filled with useful and interesting details of the massacre of Olive’s family, but it lacked a fluid structure and was filled with grammatical errors. I only point it out because I had to go back numerous times to reread sentences and paragraphs to make sure I understand the writing.

Very moving, including interesting historic facts.
This book was very interesting and gave me a real sense of how adventurous and brave the first white settlers in America were and the horrendous outcomes for some of the unfortunate families. Based on fact, I was very moved by the telling.
