The battle may very well be the worst they have ever faced. But Jono and Patrick’s bond steadily grows deeper.There is a lot of information to absorb in this book. My only real complaint is that all the acronyms can be confusing at times. The characters are well thought out and very likable. This is a very good start to a new series.

Hailey Turner offers suspense, romance, and more paranormal complications than I’ve ever encountered in a single novel. Patrick Collins is twenty-nine, having served as a front-line fighter in the Mage Corps before being recruited by the federal Supernatural Operations Agency.Yeah, you read that right. This is a world where not only a quarter of all people have some ability to use magic, but where werecreatures, vampires, and other denizens of the paranormal are part of the global population.Jonothan de Vere is an exiled werewolf from the UK who is working as a bartender in a were-owned bar in Manhattan. Jono is a special kind of werecreature, one who enjoys the patronage of one of the gods. And there you are, the ultimate twist in Hailey Turner’s imagined world: all of the ancient gods and goddesses, Greco-Roman, Egyptian, Norse, are real, and have their ways of interfering in the lives of the mortals creatures on Earth.Jono, lonely and isolated by New York’s were packs, is immediately drawn to the emotionally damaged Patrick. It appears that Fate (or, at least, one of the Fates) has plans for them. Needless to say, it’s complicated, made more so by the existence of the Dominion Sect, a band of magical humans who seek to open the veil between the worlds and brings the old gods into power again. Except the gods themselves don’t want this. Most of them, anyway.Remarkably, Turner manages to pull off this vortex of possibilities with surprising skill, even though I kept finding myself asking questions that weren’t answered (or maybe even considered). The requisite romantic attachment between Jono and Patrick is given plenty of play, but without quite satisfying the reader’s expectations. While the narrative comes to a satisfying conclusion, there are gaping doors left open that suggest Turner has only started her exploration of this world.Of course I’ll have to read the next book to see where she takes us.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion and review.I loved this story. Poor Patrick gets called into work while on his way to his first vacation in years. Who knew a murder would lead to so much more. Patrick works alone, but now he'll need to learn to accept help. When the gods mess with your life, you know that you won't have an easy time.He needs to solve the murders that are ramping up, deal with his boss, the gods, the police, dirty agents in his agency, vampires that want him dead but will keep him alive, werecreatures, and a werewolf that holds too much of his attention. He never should have answered his phone.Jono was brought to New York the years ago because Marek said he should come. With nothing left for him in England, he heads off to his fate in a new country. He didn't expect to wait so long, but he might have found his destiny with the stubborn mage that is trying to save his friend.We pray to higher powers, Patrick is who the gods call when they need assistance. He might have been manipulated into giving them a life debt, but that won't stop him from working towards delivering it. He failed last time and another paid the price, he won't let that happen again.I loved this book. The characters are complex and hold your attention. You can figure out who will be the core group of this series and I'm happy with who I see in it. I really enjoyed the scenes between Patrick and Jono, things get hot, really hot.I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm hoping that the next book includes Patrick's military friends in one of his battles. I also want to see what is going to happen with Jono and his new pack. Things are going to be interesting.I enjoyed this book so I bought a copy too

We’ll figure it out.”Ok so I attempted this twice and didn't get past 10%, I was in a book funk. Also whenever "romance taking a backseat" is said about a book I always fear it's going to be non-existent But I got to 20% then I was hooked and didn't want to put it down!“I’m not here about what you do in your free time,”“No, you’re just here to buy the future.”There's magic, different forms of it, Greek gods, vampires, werecreatures and many complexities within those relationships.Patrick can be prickly, which made me want to shake him from time to time especially when it came to Jono but it was never too much and I do believe it, it's true to him and his journey and not just thrown in there to cause frustration. He's tough as hell too and so deserving of love.Then we have Jono, *heart eyes*, who I loved from the moment we meet him. He has this calm strength about him and ungh. I adored it about him and the way he was always there for Patrick in this unwavering way. Never overbearing.The pull between the two is FIRE. Ugh so good. But even outside of that they work so well together.Then there's demons, vengeful vamps, gods and religious cults to make everything interesting and complicated.I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't take me a while to get my head around the new world, the details, the names, who's aho, but with this genre it always does. Part of the fun.I loved Marek & gang. And the eventual friendship that grew there.There's not the usual "mate" bond. The mineminemine intensity (which I love when I read a PNR book) kinda thing between Patrick and Jono, however I think it's happening in it's own subtle way and I love this take on it.There is so many more aspects/relationships/agendas to explore and I cannot wait to dive into the next two books and ignore the stupid mortal world around me.

I'm going to cheat a little here and just write the one review for all three books that are currently out in this series or I'll just end up repeating myself as I don't want to give away any spoilers to the synopsis given for each book.This series is brilliant and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you like urban fantasy with a mix of werecreatures, mages, witches, fae, vampires, humans, gods and the Fates along with friends, enemies, work colleagues and pack, pack, pack, this will be perfect for you.First time read for me by this author (and certainly not the last). I initially borrowed them on kindle unlimited but liked them so much, I've now bought them.Main characters Patrick and Jono are complex, likeable and ably supported by their friends. Each book has a different problem to deal with although the main antagonists are a plotline that runs through all three and looks as though they will continue to do so for the next one. Each are fast paced, action packed and humorous with some nicely done smexy times between the two main leads. The world building and writing style added to the enjoyment for me.Thoroughly riveting and am looking forward to the next one.Highly recommended.

I have heard nothing but good things about A Ferry of Bones & Gold, which made me excited to read it. Fortunately, the book delivered and then some. A Ferry of Bones & Gold is an action-packed page turner with twists and explosions - and that's just what I love. Great characters with chemistry, budding romance and plots against the Greek gods? Yes, please.Let's talk about characters first. Patrick Collins is a stubborn magnet for trouble, who fields weapons and badge, and has dislike for immortals and their meddling. Patrick's almost adorable on how stubborn and grumpy he can be, and I loved it. It's certainly entertaining to see how Patrick interacts with others, especially with flirting werewolf Jono, equally stubborn seer Marek, and Hermes, who just keeps delivering messages Patrick doesn't want to hear. And that's just a few mentions! There's a wide cast of intriguing characters and I could talk about most of them. There's snark and banter, which is always great! Patrick and Jono's chemistry is also incredible.The world-building was amazing; it was intricate and carefully done. There's a lot of different elements, myths and legends mixed in this urban fantasy world - from ancient gods and goddesses, to vampires, werewolves and magic users, among everything else. Some are just mentioned, a nod to their existence and others have larger role. I have to be honest: I'm not usually a big fan of urban fantasy that mixes different myths and creatures. I like it more simple, separate stories for ancient gods, and werewolves, and vampires, and whatever. However, Turner has created such a seamless world and filled it with interesting characters and dynamics that I didn't mind at all. I also have to mention how much I loved that there wasn't abrupt or rushed ending. There's proper slow down and conversations after the big climax, which was something I really appreciated.All in all, A Ferry of Bones & Gold seems to have it all, from driven characters to explosive plot and stunning world-building. I definitely loved it! Of course, I could pick the story a bit of how certain Greek gods were portrayed, but I'm aware it's mostly based on my own nerdiness when it comes to certain gods. So I'll let it go, because Turner managed to weave a great story that I enjoyed a lot - and I highly recommend you to try it, too!

This M/Bromance has so much worldbuilding behind it, but it all rolls along seamlessly. Patrick is a copy with a department in D.C. who helps sort out magical criminals when they're up to no good. But three years ago he faced massive battle in the Thirty Day War and suffering from PTSD, he refuses to work with partners or make friends.But when bodies are dropping in NY, he's sent to investigate and finds himself making new allies in seer Marek and in werewolf Jono, who has instantly attracted to.There's lots going on in this book, and Patrick is a bit like a young redheaded Dresden meets Joe Ledger. His soul is damaged and owned by the immortals and the author does lots of creative things with Greek gods and mythology.There also plenty of blood and violence, danger, action and sizzling chemistry.I'm now addicted to Pat and Jono

Whisper it quietly but I think Hailey's written another amazing pair of lovers who might have just kicked Alexei and Sean to the curb in my list of favourites (but please don't let the Russian pyrotechnic know okay?!).I am absolutely head over heels for Patrick and Jono, both individually and as a partnership. Patrick is everything I love in a flawed hero, both metaphorically and literally as his magic has been damaged beyond repair when first we meet him.Jono is a British boy, and every time he spoke, visions of North Laandon (that's the accent I hear) fluttered through my head, bringing with them the sounds of the city.The world building in this book is beyond brilliant, the mythology of the Greek Pantheon is seamlessly merged with that of the Norse Gods, and with the folklore of West African, Egyptian and European cultures.In terms of the plot, it's fast-paced, complex, at times sets the heart racing and at others makes you melt and at the centre is a new group of characters I know I'm going to love just as desperately as the Alpha Team in Hailey's Metahuman Files series.I'm not giving away anything plotwise because I'm not spoiling it, but this is everything I want in the opener of a new series. The romance is present but doesn't overtake the urban fantasy, and the fantasy is firmly rooted into the "real world".There's good guys to root for and bad guys you want to see wiped off the face of the Earth and a bunch of brilliant secondary characters I want to know more about.Now, I know this book is only just out, but when can I have the rest please?!
