Nice short introductory read, keep in mind its only 60 pages though
Really enjoyed reading this. Was a very short read however, so just keep in mind this is a 60-page booklet. Good introductory read into the history of the standard oil company.

The story of the Rockefeller family
overall I like the e-book Standard Oil Company: The Rise and Fall of America’s Most Famous Monopoly. This book could've used a little better editing because I did find spelling mistakes. The story of the Standard Oil Company is also the story of the John D. Rockefeller family which became one of the richest families in America. The book starts off by describing the father William Avery Rockefeller Senior, who was a charlatan and crook ( He was also known as Devil Bill). The book next described the young life of John, his education and marriage. Next the described John the visionary who ultimately created the Standard Oil Company by taking over his competitors one by one. Further the book describes essentially the robber baron era and the investigations that ultimately led to the breakup of the company. I highly recommend this book so that one can understand the competitive practices of capitalism when there are no regulations to prevent monopolizing the market place.

Surprisingly Comprehensive
This book tells the story of the famous (infamous?) Standard Oil Company. During the 18th century, America became part of the Industrial Revolution and the catalyst was oil. The oil boom resulted in vast expansion of the American economy and at its center was John D. Rockefeller and his Standard Oil Company. The plots, the struggles, and the evolution of the company are depicted with balance and objectivity. The author doesn't shy away from the controversies that swirled around John D and his business practices. The fight between the Government and Standard Oil is also presented with candor. The narrative is augmented with pictures, illustrations and pertinent contemporary quotations which enhance the reader's understanding. This book is informative and interesting.
