How can you tell when it is fully charged as neither my charger or the opener have an indicator light?

You can't. Sorry. I use mine alot. When I fully charge it I can usually leave it on charge for quite awhile. But not always, 2 to 3 hours will usually do it. But sometimes I have to use it one time after another for gallon cans. It it does run completely down on a gallon can. AndI can plug it in ASAP and in 10 to 15 minutes I can do another. Time after Time. But I always have a back up just in case.Hand can opener. Never know when something might go wrong. Or the electricity goes out :)

Can the battery be replaced?

I purchased mine in 2014 & I’m having to replace it now because it no longer holds a charge. It’s served me well

Will this open the family size cans from sams and costco?

yes, but it takes some getting used to mounting it on the can. It wouldn't catch the lip on the can. eventually I got it..

why does it take so long to ship?

Mine was here the next day, if you are Prime then you are told when to expect it.
