Q: If I use whole potatoes and cut them into thin slices, how long does it take to make it edible and crispy?

I use fresh potatoes, cut them into about 1" strips, rinse in cold water. Pat dry, use about a tbsp of olive oil, and cook at 400 for 10 minutes. Then I shake them around, and cook for another 10 minutes. They're soft inside, and somewhat crunchy outside. The smaller end pieces are super crunchy by then. Perfect homemade fries.

Q: Is there a guide or something on how to cook the frozen stuff ie: fries,chicken nuggets, mozzarella stick?

Yes. A small cooking guide comes with it. As well, there are numerous cookbooks, on-line articles, etc., to give you ideas

Q: How do you turn off before timer is done? Pull out basket and unplug appliance?

I just pull out basket and let the timer run out.
