I used this on a thermostat on the third floor with the "real" C wire in the basement. Snaking a C wire would have required major damage to walls. This was a cheap and effective alternative, but there are a couple of drawbacks. The wire from the plug to the thermostat connectors is quite long. The "rub" is that this wire cannot be cut. The actual wires are too small for the thermostat connection. They put larger ends on the wires for making the connection, but you are normally left with a lot of extra wire to "hide". Second drawback applies if you have blackouts. I use an inverter and a generator for our situation. The inverter keeps the heat going automatically. If I were using a "real C" wire, the thermostat would work when the inverter powered the boiler. But with this device, it does not work when on inverter power.

So it works well with my smart thermostat in my apartment. I had to watch a few videos on how to install it correctly, and my thermostat didn't even recommend using an external transformer. It worked great and will work on any thermostat needing a C wire where you don't have a C wire available. Just make sure you watch a few videos on how to hook it up correctly.

The media could not be loaded. I bought this to use with a 'smart' thermostat on a heat-only system that lacks a C wire. In such cases, a 24 volt transformer can often be used to supply power to the thermostat.Before attempting the install, I connected the transformer to the thermostat and plugged it in to test its functionally. It worked ok, but the transformer produced an annoying buzz that could be heard everywhere in the room, even with television audio playing. (See attached video.)This is unacceptable, and prompted me to return the transformer and order a different brand device.Gave it 3 stars for functionally, assessing a 2 star penalty for the noise.

I have a two wire system (heat only) and it wasn’t supplying enough voltage to my Nest thermostat to keep it functioning properly. Bought this transformer and problem solved. Easy hook up. An inexpensive solution that works!
