Hard to beat for the money

I was looking for an affordable alternative to a spotting scope and wanted binoculars of at least 20x for good range and ease on the eyes. I own a compact pair of Nikon zoom binos and a couple of their rifle scopes and have been pretty satisfied with the scopes and reasonably satisfied with the binos for what they cost so I thought I'd roll the dice on these. I had read reviews on other similar binos by other brands but came to the conclusion that they had quality control issues and you either got a good pair or you didn't.First impressions out of the box, as other reviews have said, the lens covers are pretty much junk. That's okay with me as these will be in their case with the lens covers on when not in use. The tripod adapter is a joke. The two holes that the thumb screw is supposed to go through are threaded and the adapter is so thick that when you remove the thumb screw from the binos it isn't long enough to go through the adapter and thread back into the binos. I called Nikon and they are supposed to send a replacement. We will see what I get. I was able to replace the thumb screw with a bolt of the same thread and adapt it. Then the part that is supposed to mount to the tripod has a similar issue. Made another modification for a quick disconnect plate and mounted it to my ball joint tripod. At this point you're probably wondering why I gave this 5 stars. It was an overcast day and I took the binos outside on the tripod and focused on the top of my mountain about 17 miles away with a 5,000' elevation above mine. I could count the trees on top of the mountain! No edge distortion. Just a crisp, clear picture of the top of the mountain at 22x. The zoom lever moves smoothly and of course refocusing is required when zooming in or out as well as readjusting the left eye diopter, physics you just can't get around, but if you use the main focus on the right eye to get a crisp picture and then dial in the left eye diopter you will get a very clear picture. The binos are lightweight. The eyecups are somewhat adjustable. I adjusted the eye cups all the way out because I don't wear glasses and they binos still fit in the case. Overall, for the cost, weight and quality these are impossible to beat. They also come with a cleaning cloth and a "lens pencil" which are nice additions. For my hunting purposes, I shouldn't need more than the 22x to spot game and identify whether it's something I'm going to pursue. My binos I hunt with are 10x40 high quality for spot and stalk or glassing an area where 10x will suffice but these will give me a larger field of view with a higher magnification and will be the perfect "sit and glass" for extended hours without the eye fatigue you get looking through one eye through a spotting scope with the other eye closed.Honestly, I wasn't expecting that much based on the price but had they been double the price would still be very happy with the image quality.

Great value and very good optics in an inexpensive yet well-made binocular

I was pleasantly surprised by these binoculars in two ways. First, the ones I ordered were used/refurbished, but when I unboxed them, all the accessories were there, perfect or unopened and the binoculars looked brand-new. Second, Nikon has put all the essential engineering and build quality into these to achieve very good optical performance, particularly given the challenges of making a good variable magnification optic. At 10x magnification, the field of view is clear, bright, and free of any visible fringing or chromatic aberration. Eye relief is adequate to preserve a full field of view with my glasses on as long as the rubber eyecups are folded back. Since I have astigmatism, I can't just dial out blurriness with diopter correction. At full magnification, you just begin to see some color fringing at the edges, but overall image quality remains surprisingly good. I can make out detail at a distance better with two eyes at 22x magnification than I can with a 30x monocular spotting scope. With the included tripod adapter attached, these make a great rifle range optic. Out hunting, I'm spoiled by the ability to steady these against something and zoom in for otherwise indiscernible detail. This is a great value in a highly versatile optic.

Nice quality and the extra zoom is Amazing

I prefer a vivid and sharp image, which is why I chose Zeiss binoculars for my 8x42. After testing various models, including the Nikon Monarch, I found that Zeiss offered superior clarity and image quality. The distinction between the two brands is significant. Although I initially sought additional zoom capabilities that Zeiss did not provide, I ultimately opted for the Nikon, which proved to be an excellent decision. The clarity of the sight picture is impressive, especially with steady hands. I purchased these binoculars in very good condition for approximately $120, and I am quite satisfied with their overall quality.

Great set of eyes for the range!

These binoculars are perfect for use at the shooting range. I mainly shoot .22LR and 6.5 Grendel, and I have no trouble making out the shot placement on the target up to 100 yards.I've tried other variable binoculars from Barska (10x - 30X) at about 1/2 the price, but they have not been very satisfactory. They were very finicky when trying to use the higher magnification settings, with the usual problem being a noticeable loss of clarity. The optics on this set are clear throughout the entire range, with no distortion that I have noticed. There is a little adjustment required when transitioning from 10X to 22x, but that is to be expected. Other than that, they have worked perfectly. The only gripe I have, and it is a minor one, is that the front lens caps are not as tight as I would like - they have a tendency to come off in the case. However, the quality of vision is more than worth the very minor inconvenience.I highly recommend them to anybody looking for an excellent set of variable binoculars at a very reasonable price.

Excellent binoculars

These were purchased primarily for watching birds and whales in Maui. The optics are excellent. The zoom setting is easy to use and the magnification numbers seem accurate. The images are not as sharp as image stabilized canon 18x50, or Nikon image stabilized 16x42.. However at 1/10 the price of the image stabilized glasses, these seem an outstanding value. I bought a second pair. Since they are not waterproof, I would probably be careful about using in the rain or anywhere they might get wet. I haven’t tried them on a boat, but the image stabilized choices would probably be better in that setting,Overall a great purchase and excellent value.
