Product description Music from the film by Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke + tracks from R Kelly, Alicia Keys etc .com Most soundtracks for movie blockbusters are a mixed bag, and this one is no exception. The Ali soundtrack is heavily weighted toward R&B, and on that front the album is a success, despite R. Kelly's two horrendously saccharine power ballads. There's no denying the greatness of classic tracks like Aretha Franklin's supremely melancholy "Ain't No Way" and Al Green's live rendition of "A Change Is Gonna Come," and David Elliot continues the old-school theme, with a warm and bluesy remake of "Bring It On Home to Me." Alicia Keyes's "Fight" channels the '70s vibe of James Brown's Funky People, and the fabulous Angie Stone breaks it down and keeps it moving with "20 Dollars." Things go awry when it comes to the rock & roll selections. Everlast's blues-rock posturing on "The Greatest" is irksome, and the Watchtower Four's remake of the classic Bob Dylan song "All Along the Watchtower" (done best by Jimi Hendrix) is a travesty. Topnotch contributions by cello virtuoso Martin Tillman, former Dead Can Dance vocalist Lisa Gerrard, and Afropop superstar Salif Keita help balance things out. --Rebecca Levine

Anything Ali is GREAT to me
Yes I am partial about anything Muhammad Ali is great as I love this man for him taking a stand for his religious beliefs, standards and morals. He stood as such a great man in turbulent times of such hatred in the United States, where young white men were dodging the draft and going to Canada and Europe but, Black men were being put on the front line and walking POINT in Viet Nam and they really didn't want to be there. So Ali took a stand. And for that I HIGHLY RESPECT AND LOVE HIM !

poor and a half
One test I use for film scores is, does the score work as well on the stereo as it does on screen. In Ali's case, no. I love Ali. I love Ali's story. I even love watching Michael Mann directing Will Smith playing Ali, and if you are a fan of the champ, see the film. When I did, I heard the Aretha Franklin track, here included, a blues track, which is not included, and some modern R&B which I thought I could at least enjoy if not love.Ali the soundtrack is dominated by this modern R&B--R Kelly for example; song after song of this material making references to "the greatest," and the "Champ." All by artists who probably weren't born during Ali's active years, and sung in modern digital production, clean as a gauze bandage and as sterile. The 1960's R&B of the Franklin track is strangely out of place on the album, and the modern tracks seem strangely out of place for a film set from 1960-1975. I wonder how many artists singing here really understand the turmoil of the era and why Ali was so important to the times, because if they do, it doesn't show in the musicI am not saying atmospheric music can't work in a film about this era--it does. And I am not denying my basis against modern R&B in favor of vintage blend. But Ali as film soundtrack gives you little sense of the Ali the film's milieu, and is more cheerleading for "The Greatest" then giving you a sense of the story that made him "The Greatest." I could turn on any modern FM R&B station to hear music like this, and given the choice between that and this soundtrack, I don't want to do either.

5 Star Rating
* Rating was selected due to the great songs & arrangements of those songs. However, from the cover-CD, beng it was pictured as Ali's fight..........never expected to listen to the music this CD represented. Cover totally deceiving to the buyer. Purchase was made only due to the CD cover, even though I did see the movie.* Totally Liked the CD, tuning in that 85% of the songs again was surprising to listen to.* This particular CD has no problems with my recommendations, especially if you are a fan of "Al Green". First time I had heard him in Live Concert singing "Change is Gonna Come".

Feel empowered!
This is the absolute best motivational CD I've ever heard. I've had it for more than 10 years, purchased it twice after I lost the first one.My husband and I both love it, and whenever I feel discouraged, this CD is all I need to feel empowered again!

For some real soul music
There are a couple of tracks on this album that I really love that I haven't been able to find else where! The Sam Cooke version of "A change is gonna come". A few other good tracks as well, but that one song is a real highlight.

The World's Greatest - R. Kelly02. Fight - Alicia Keys03. Hold On - R. Kelly04. A Change Is Gonna Come - Al Green feat. Booker T & The MG's05. Ain't No Way - Aretha Franklin06. Sometimes - Bilal07. 20 Dollars - Angie Stone08. For Your Precious Love - Truth Hurts09. Bring It On Home To Me - David Elliot10. The Greatest - Everlast11. Mistreated - Shawn Kane12. Tomorrow - Salif Keita13. All Along The Watchtower - The Watchtower Four14. Odessa - Martin Tillman15. Soundtrack "Ali - Original Soundtrack II":01. Set Me Free - Dungeon East & Whild Peach02. As The Years Go Passing By - Mighty Joe Young03. That's How It Feels - Soul Clan04. Sleeper - lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke05. Papa - Salif Keita06. Time Flies By - Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke07. Adagio - Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke08. That's What You Always Do - Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke09. Ceremony - Martin Tillman10. Black Attack - Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke11.
