They are connected to the audio you are using, so where you go, they work! They are not bluetooth.

I can’t change the buds! Are they usually so fiddly?

Yes...they are fiddly! If you can't pull them off with bare fingers, try holding them with with piece of kitchen towel and squeeze them to an oval shape and they should pop off! To put the new ones on, you need to squeeze them as well to open up the hole...if you still struggle to insert them, try a little bit of Vaseline on the holes...and you can also use Vaseline on the buds themselves for a more waterproof fit.
