Good Addition to Cooking
Adds depth of flavor to recipes. I know “chow mein” is not exactly Asian, but these dried mushrooms were just what was needed.

Pristine packaging
Contrary to earlier reports, there are no bugs and there is no porcini dust a miniscule fragments in the bottle. The slices are all good sized and there is no evidence of mold The flavor is very strong and I am not convinced that the mushrooms are actually porcinis as the flavor seems much stronger than porcinis i have had in the past, and I have been buying them for a few decades. They are a darker color than others i have bought and there is a hint of burnt rubber in the aroma. In the 1st use, i found very little grit in the soaking waterThe labelling is confusing. The front label says 'imported dried porcini. The large label on the back says it is a 'forest blend of shitake and oyster wild porcini and black fungus'There is also a sticker on the back that says 'Mushroom House dried porcini'. Despite all of the confusion, it appears to me that the mushrooms are all one kind. There are certainly no black fungus which i assume to be wood ear mushrooms. The true test for me will be a porcini risotto which is scheduled for the very near future. For now, I will say that for the price they provide a lot of flavor, but the risotto will tell the story.

Quality Porcini Mushrooms at an affordable price
The recipe was for pork chops smothered in mushrooms. The Porcini mushrooms imparted an intense mushroom flavorthat made the dish a real hit. As soon as I use this bagfull up I will be back for more! (you use about 1 part Porcinis to 4 parts regular grocery store mushrooms)

Great dried mushrooms
I use these dried mushrooms so many ways and buy them frequently. They really are great broken into smaller pieces and then mixed with other mushrooms and some water. I let them sit a while, drain them, and then brown them in a skillet with a little olive oil before adding them to whatever dish I am making. This adds a wonderful mushroom umami flavor.

These mushrooms are full of sand and not edible.
I have been a working chef for 45 years and never seen dried Porcini mushrooms so fully laden with sand and grit. I was able to use the soaking liquid after running through a coffee strainer but the mushrooms themselves had to be thrown out.
