Order this non OEM set
I installed this set in my 18hp Briggs shortly after I received it and it has been running good as new. It now starts within two turns of the engine. Don't be afraid to order this non OEM set. This price is a great value, extras included, all the parts fit and got it ahead of schedule

Part tolerances are terrible
This was first installed in my engine on July 24th expecting that it would correct the problem of a broken decompression assembly on the old cam. It did not so I proceeded to troubleshoot why it did not correct the broken part. I suspected that I was at fault in not setting the valve lash properly. (It should be .002-.004 thousandth). After checking the valve lash I reset it to almost zero in order to feel the slight "bump" on the intake push rod. There was no bump so I took the engine apart again to see why I couldn't feel the intake push rod "bump". NO JOY so I removed the cam to see why that was so. I found the problem. The movable arm on the decompression assembly is way too loose. If you look closely to the enclosed photos #1 (far left) and #2 (Middle) you will see that the assemble has too much travel. Photo #3 tells the reason why it is not working properly. Medium pressure on the little arm (with the flat side) using my thumb nail can cause the decompression assembly to cant toward the cam cutout The arm along with its extension (the part with the flat side) can move so much that it does not force the valve to open for the decompression so no "bump" is felt at the proper time. Problem identified but not solved. The new cam part is not machined to proper tolerances so as to not allow it to work as designed.UPDATE 8/5/24 After speaking with an Amazon rep he said that they would send me a 2nd camshaft, no cost so I said yes, why not, I received and installed the 2nd camshaft, checked valve tolerances again and today I installed the engine back on the tractor. It started right up with no problems, started the engine several times and took the tractor out for a test run, everything looks good, no leaks so I will revise my rating to 4 stars. Will let you all know of any further problems.

Excellent Kit at Econimical Price
We had two mowers with the same Briggs and Stratton Intek engines come through the shop in the same week. Both had the same issue - the engine couldn't spin over past the compression stroke. First step is always check valve clearance. Usually, adjusting that will fix it. These Intek engines, though, have a common issue - the compression release breaks. To know if this is your problem, with the spark plug out slowly spin the engine over (clockwise) while watching the valves. You should see the exhaust valve open and close; then the intake valve will open and close; and then you SHOULD see the exhaust valve open SLIGHTLY and close - just a little bounce - before it opens fully and closes again. If you do not see that little bounce, YOU NEED THIS KIT.This includes everything that you need to replace a broken cam shaft / defective compression release. At a MUCH better price than OEM, I might add! You may not need the oil seals, depending on the condition yours are in, but... you took it apart this far already. Do you really NOT want to replace them while your already in there, only to have to take it all back apart again later? The quality of these are questioned by some, but honestly... the B&S OEM camshafts are inferior quality now anyway. I mean, one of the ones we just did was BRAND NEW - less than six months old - and it's camshaft had already flown apart! So why pay more for something that is not any better in quality if you don't have to?My ONLY issue is how the crankcase gasket is packed. They LITERALLY just fold it up and shove it in the box! One wasn't so bad, but in the other kit, the gasket was THIS CLOSE to being creased. If they fix their packing issue, I would happily give this a full five-star review. As always... if this comes back anytime soon, I will update the review to reflect that. Unless/Until then... highly recommended!I have to apologize for this review being word for word identical to another one that I posted for another camshaft repair kit I reviewed last week. The two kits were IDENTICAL in every way, so I figure it's only fitting that the reviews be equally identical.

It's working great so far!
I bought this for a Briggs and Stratton Intek 18.5hp single cylinder in a Husqvarna LTH-18538, which had exploded its compression release mechanism, wiped the intake lobe, and developed a wobble in the cam gear. (And that a prior mechanic had left the oil pump driveshaft out of. Oof!) Having seen some videos and reviews showing that some aftermarket camshafts for these motors were wildly out of spec, I used a micrometer to verify critical dimension of this new camshaft prior to install. I'm happy to report that the total length and cam gear position we're identical to OEM, that the intake and exhaust lobes were clocked correctly, and that the intake and exhaust lobes were within tolerance for their position (within 1/8"). The oil sump gasket was also the correct thickness and the lower shaft seal looked identical. I installed the camshaft, lower shaft seal, and oil sump gasket in the damaged motor and it is now running flawlessly with no leaks. (I did not use the tappets/lifters or valve cover gaskets.)This camshaft does indeed look like a cheap aftermarket in the hand but, let's be real, <$30 delivered with all the extra bits in tow, you can't argue with that price! No idea about the metallurgy of the compression release mechanism, so that may very well fail prematurely, but it was a flawed design by B&S from the start. For my use case where I had a motor with a metal slurry in the sump and no idea how much life it had left in it, this was a perfect fit to get that motor back up in running to eek another season of life back out of it. This extremely affordable camshaft was a blessing to find.
