I'm seeing allot of iffy reviews on this product. If this a good investment? Is there a strap i can use to hold it up to my head?

Yes it has a strap, and for the money it is a decent unit.

Will it help you see through thick brush? We're trying to locate our escaped cat and think she's hiding in the woods nearby.

Maybe, there are a few factors here. How thick is the brush? How dark is the cat? If it's really thick brush, and a dark cat you will not be able to see it. A cat with any other markings than black, and brush that is not so thick will probably be OK. Keep in mind, cats tend to look at anything that moves or makes noise, so no matter how thick the brush, or dark the cat , you may have a good chance of seeing the reflection in his eyes ...
