I think it might be bit tricky for 2 year old to play on his/her own but with the help of an adult/ older children it's great. I bought it for 4 year old.

Once you make a pizza do you squash all the playdoh together or is it easy to separate it? Just thinking whether I need to buy extra playdoh.

Get loads of play doh if you want to keep the “separate toppings” idea. You basically end up with a load of brown! My 5 y o granddaughter doesn’t seem to mind, though. But, yes, we have bought loads.
