A zero would be without any adapters connected. There is no adjustment.

Are these clippers good for cutting bald heads?

Yes they are . Not as good as my andis T-outliner clippers but great for the price! I shave bald n it works! It just seems as though If the speed was faster it can do more!

Can you use to fade hair?

Very hard to do, just adequate as far as hair clippers.
