For enthusiasts, Mugen fans and the like, Scythe is "pulling out all the stops" for the new Mugen MAX. Another contender for the "XL" CPU tower cooler market, the Mugen MAX is a real eye-catcher. For performance, a GlideStream 140mm PWM fan is taking care of business by blowing air through the T-M.A.P.S. (Three-dimensional Multiple Airflow Pass- through Structure) known from Scythe's flagship, the Mugen 4. For practical, easy mounting, the mounting system is borrowed from the "smaller brother" as well. Nickel-plated heatpipes add a classy touch to this impressive cooler.

Solid alternative to H5
To do much better than this cooler, you would have to get a Noctua NH D-15, Cryorig R1, or earlier gen Scythe Fuma. Keeps my Ryzen 2600 maxing at 70C on small fft's and linpacks. That's in an S340 Elite equipped with two Corsair Ml140's for intake and the two stock exhausts. I have an overclock of 4.2ghz @ 1.3v. Ram is overclocked too and runs a little warm.So yeah, all things considered temps are pretty darned good. 50-58C heavy gaming and any CPU-heavy task that is not benchmarking, 40C ordinary tasks, 28-30C idle, just above ambient in this room. It's pretty beefy. It may not be very fat, but height-wise it barely fits in my case. It at least has an offset for RAM slots - you can populate all 4. I didn't find the mounting process to be too bad. You do need to jab a long screwdriver through the top. 7" is the length she needs to turn her screw. The good news is that just like other Scythe mounts, you can get some serious clamping pressure applied, which is always good for transfer. Just be careful not to warp the board or damage the socket! All around quality is good. Nickel-plated copper heatpipes and baseplate. The milling/polishing job on the baseplate is flat and smooth, with no noticeable imperfections. 6 heatpipes in a nice spread. Wide-open finstack aids in dispersal and ensures very quiet operation. The fan itself is pretty quiet, too. That mirror finish on the top plate is a real attention-getter. Very nice highlight to any build. It's a dead-serious midsize air cooler. This guy will tangle with the best of them. No doubt this is a pro custom builder's best kept secret - a nice looking cooler with reliable performance and great value! For $40 you really can't beat it!

Great cooling and price was worth the painful mid size case install.
What started off as a pretty confident first time pc build took several turns as I realized that this heat sink was big, REALLY, really big. I had a redline RL05 mid-size case and was installing this monster on an MSI z270 Plus mobo, and didn't have too many issues until installing the motherboard and cable management / install. A long (I believe around 7") philips screwdriver is very much recommended to secure this thing without having to wrench for a good while with the included tool, but make sure that your case can accommodate this beast. Dropping the mobo into the case was rough with the way this case had it's cables seperated from front to back, and later down the road I barely had enough room to reach in the corner of the motherboard to plug in the cpu cable to the port due to the size of the heat sink. Aside from size constraints, it works well in keeping the cpu nice and brisk, and definitely pronounces it's intimidating size in windowed cases. Would definitely buy again but with a full size tower, scythe makes a good product for a solid dollar figure.

Extremely quiet and cools very well. Hard to install on mid-sized cases.
Really great cooler. Surprised it's not more popular. Extremely quiet and works well. Beware this thing is huge and was a huge pain to install in a mid size case. I was just lucky and found a long time metal rod that I could sift through the radiator to screw it onto the socket. Don't expect the little wrench they give to to be helpful haha.

Absolutely MASSIVE
This thing is massive. It does not interfere with ram sticks at all. I even have some of the old school Corsair Vengance Ram with the tall heat spreaders on them and it fits perfect thanks to it being offset a little. Installation was quite a chore but is doable. Unit only comes with 1 fan though, wish it had 2 to boost that already wonderful performance. I was able to drop my max temps during Prime testing by 17C over stock intel cooler on my 4690K. Very cheap cooler but very effective, just make sure you have the room in your case to fit it.

Great for AMD RYZEN. Best Air cooler's on the market.
Great for AMD RYZEN .This is my 6th Scythe air cooler and I love this one the most not as wide as the Scythe Ninja series on the fan side and a lot taller than the Reg Mugen fits in any mid tower case. The fans push way more air than both the Ninja and the Reg Mugen I only use Scythe now after years of tried and failure with other brands and these cool 99% of what a water cooler can do but half or less than half the cost. these cool better than the $100 air coolers from the big names . If you don't care about noise and want MAXIMUM air cooling buy the Scythe ULTRA KAZE 120MM FANS they cool this thing even better and are quiet when controlled in bios from the motherboard or with a good case fan controller . AMD RYZEN 1600X at 4.2ghz max temp 54 Celsius at full load .stock speed 3.6ghz 45 Celsius at full load with 4ghz turbo core with Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm fans front and back.

For 1151, be sure you have the new spacers!
Performance is excellent, and stock fan is very quiet. One important note though: apparently some of the inventory still being shipped is the older version without the new parts for use with socket 1151 - at least the unit I received was old. Scythe support quickly sent these parts free, so other than a few days delay there was no issue. Look for the four additional aluminum spacers (washers) and instructions specifically referencing socket 1151 installations - otherwise it's an old kit.

Two Stars
Absolutely massive and had to return it as it does NOT fit an LGA 1151 socket.

Great cooler from great brand
I didn't purchase this off amazon because a retailer at my country has it at almost the same price. But I have to give this beast a kudos. Scythe was always a great CPU cooler manufacturer. but it seems their products didn't do well on the mainstream sites like amazon and etc... this cooler keep my i5 2500k on z68 mobo cool like the h80i that failed on me and sometimes even better. my CPU is clocked to 4.5 GHz and idle at 35c. and <50c while gaming. Really love this cooler although I did replace the thermal paste with the AS 5.
