Dan Coates Popular Piano Library -- Medleys of Beautiful Ballads

Great Music
I love the music in this book. The tempos are interesting enough to keep me challenged.

Dan Coates doesn't Disappoint!
This book of ballads is very nice - it's certainly not at an intermediate level, but it's better than "easy". It will be perfect for me to play at the nursing homes where I volunteer! It has most of Dan Coates' beautiful arrangement skills - just not as lush or complicated. I bought it precisely since, after 58 years of playing the piano, my hands are getting arthritic and can't manage the advanced arrangements that I used to play. All in all, it's nice enough.

Too Easy
I was expecting the music to be on the same level as his Christmas Book but a little less difficult as the Advanced Book

Great book that is not too difficult but has great arrangements.
I am a long time musician but have arthritis in my hands now. I wanted these songs that were not too difficult because of my limitations. I love playing this book. It is mostly intermediate but not too easy and has the recent tunes we all love now.

The new Dan Coates is not like the earlier arrangements
This is a nice collection for intermediate players or students. This is not the Dan Coates sound that he is known for in his advanced piano collections. I think he only arranges for students and easier piano. I haven't found any of his newer collections to be appealing to me.

Dan Coates arrangements are beautiful.
I am at the beg interm/intermediate level and can play these beautiful medleys the first or second time through. I absolutely love Dan Coates arrangements. I have a couple of his books that are a little more advanced and I am very pleased that a lot of his advanced arrangements are not too difficult and will help me move forward.

Playable, but sound great.
As an intermediate-level (maybe slightly lower) player, I enjoy playing modern songs. These arrangements are perfect for me! They are slightly challenging, but playable with practice. And they sound very much like the songs I hear played in the radio. Coates is a genius with arrangements!

Nice collection. Some overlap with other books by Coates
Nice collection. Some overlap with other books by Coates, but not enough to discourage me from making a buy decision again if I had to. His piano solos for advanced pianists is still the best collection and I would always pick that one over any other book if it were my first Dan Coates book.

pleasantly easy to sight read
Have returned to playing piano after gap of many many years, and aim to get back to previous grade 7 standard and achieve that grade 8 . This is my first experience of Dan Coates, and I would describe this as my 'guilty pleasure'; pleasantly easy to sight read, and ,as others have said, with very few notes Mr Coates manages to transform me into an accomplished player. Very enjoyable, after struggling with Bach and Schubert (where the opposite is the case!). I had not twigged that this is indeed a 'medley' , and only really bought it for 'Killing me Softly'; butt I love the chord changes as you segue through the different songs, and can ham it up for more fun. Favourite for me are the 'soulful' and 'power ballads' sequences. Will definitely be buying more Dan Coates; thankyou for all your helpful Amazon reviews.

Dan Coates publishes beautiful arrangements, no question
Dan Coates publishes beautiful arrangements, no question! The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5, is because even though it says "advanced", it is really an "intermediate" level. It left me longing for more embellishments. I subsequently purchased another Dan Coates book, rated "Intermediate/Advanced" and it is much more advanced, with more lush arrangements. I wish the publisher would pay closer attention to what is considered "interrnediate" and what is considered "advanced". That being said, the songs are beautiful, and you will enjoy playing them.
