Turned my Blues Deluxe into a JCM800.
Now with the tap of a switch with my foot I can instantly change my sound from Claptonic blues to Motley Crue’s. It probably works well with any pickup, but from personal experience, I can tell you that it works beautifully with vintage/medium output bridge humbuckers (P.A.F.’s, ‘59 SH-1’s, and Custom 5’s). Maxon’s ability to maintain the freshness of natural sounds, harmonics, and overtones while cranking the gain is simply amazing. It sounds very analog, and not that crappy digitized stuff that you get with cheap pedals. Slap this in front of a tube amp and you’ll be unstoppable.Basic controls: Gain (don’t be afraid to crank it), tone, and level. Simplicity is beauty.

METAL!!
I was in the market for a boost OD to put in front of my Lany Ironheart Head- After tons of research I settled on the 808X- could not have made a better choice! Dive all the way down and the Level all the way up with tone at 12 in front of my amp and it screams tight metal !!! Look at youtube for proof! Solid metal construction and accepts 9v battery supply. AMAZING OD and a must buy for any metal heads out there!

It is clear and articulate and yields a great attack for hard rock/metal
I mainly use this as a clean boost with little gain on the pedal and high gain on the amp (Diezel D-Moll and an OR100). It is clear and articulate and yields a great attack for hard rock/metal. There is plenty of volume there for a boost. I like it a lot at low to moderate volumes in the home studio. At loud band practice, it seemed to be too much and harder to control; maybe I need more time dialing (?) If the low cut was a bit less aggressive it would be near perfect. I've had a lot of pedals; this one is impressive but the tone search continues. I may try a standard 808 next as that is a staple for many.

It might get loud
Very articulate and does not pinch the signal into mids only. Gets clean boost and filthy boost. Attractive box.

great product
This pedal arrived in like two or three days after i ordered, from Japan!! (to Indiana)Extremely happy with the urgency they shipped my order, and the pedal does a great job of tightening up the overall sound of my Peavey Valveking 100 watt. Gives it the extra push/clarity it needs while keeping a great full sound!

Perfect match for a JCM 800
I was a bit leery of whether I'd like this pedal as I've tried some other pricey overdrive's that I wasn't crazy about. I am using this through a 1983 Marshall JCM 800 2203 model and this pedal is the sound I wanted. It's very similar to the Maxon OD808 which I have. But, this pedal has a bit more aggression than the smooth 808. it does cut some bass like the 808 but I remedy that by using a cheap graphic EQ pedal after the Maxon. All you have to do is raise 100hz to 400hz faders about 10dbs and that restores all your bass and then some. It works kind of like a resonance control. The 808x adds a bit more grind and grit than the 808 and importantly adds some "sparkle" to the tone. It sounds awesome. It's really about a 10% difference than the 808 but honestly, that 10% difference in tone is what separates the great amps and tones from the average ones. The result is massive through the JCM 800. i got the idea for this pedal on one of Godlylke's videos where a player was talking about using this pedal through his 800. They really go together perfectly. I also tried the Boss SD-1 but did not like it. I find this one to be nearly perfect for getting the 800 type amps to sound angry yet clear.

also dial up the drive a little using in front of my much smaller Ampeg GVT15 which yields a brilliant crunch tone
I use gain down level up to add solid state tightness to front end of my ENGL Powerball v2; also dial up the drive a little using in front of my much smaller Ampeg GVT15 which yields a brilliant crunch tone, back volume off on guitar the picking dynamics remain clear. The issue some had with the Green OD808 was the limited frequency responsiveness, and in need of additional dB level bump.As far as I can tell, this pedal addresses those shortcomings in the Green OD808.This red pedal actually provides what the Green OD808 did as well as additional ODs I used for years (incl. Blues Driver BD-2 and Super Overdrive SD-1--pedals I've always used as my safety net; I watched a video on OD808x setting mashup, experimented myself over a couple of weeks and was able to find both usages for the pedals I previously employed with this one).I'll go back to my original point about adding solid state tightness. The Green OD808 does this very well also; however, what was apparent to me in using this pedal with two very different amps was how it was clear the addition of this pedal added something to both--but all the while allowed the amp's character tone dominate and compliment, not interfere with the amp's tone.I'm not sure if my above observation is due to the harder clipping of the pedal--where the harmonic character of the amp was enhanced, while still providing the solid state tightness, and/or front end push I required. This pedal may be slightly underrated in my opinion--those who believe it will behave just like their OD808 (or those who have not had an OD808 previously) may be a bit perplexed at what exactly this pedal is doing for you. But those who've had the OD808 and/or know what they're looking for in terms of dynamics, touch sensitivity--I'd recommend trying this pedal, as I do not believe it will disappoint.Good luck!
