Charger failed in first 15 min
Just bought this today and thought it would be handy for the winter. I saw many poor reviews at Sears, but thought I would give it a try as DieHard usually has good products.Well, right after I took it out of the box, plug that in. I can see from the LED that the battery is being charged, but 15 mins into the charge, I heard a pop in the charger block and the LED went out. No matter what I do, I cannot get it lit up again, the charge level also continued to go down every few minutes. I put a voltmeter on the charger, no output. The charger included with the new unit is a small compact charger compared to the one shown in the instruction manual. I suspect they downsized to a more efficient unit, but clearly it is not up to the task. As the charger was very hot to the touch after the pop, it is most likely undersized for the job.I took the unit right back to Sears for a full refund, and decided to go with a smaller 750 unit that has the charger built in and lighter.BTW, USB port on this unit is only rated up to 500mA. It does not has enough current to charger any of the new smart phone (usually they are 1A), let alone the 2A iPad. Don't buy it for the USB charge port.

Don't buy Diehard portable power 950
We are full time RVers. We bought this product in Aug of 2010 and followed charging instructions to the letter. We need it to jump our tow vehicle. It is now April of 2011 and we are traveling cross country. We used it once and it worked. The charger first charged up to 100% but now it won't go above 98%. In addition, the alarm is going off and it won't stop, even when battery is charging. I called tech support and they told me to cut the alarm wire because it is "probably faulty". (Note: they are not available on week-ends so if the problem happens then, you are SOL.) We don't want to disable anything that the manufacturer felt was necessary. Also, why should we have to take the item apart. The charger is not even a year old!!!! We can't even find where the alarm wire is because there is not a diagram. We need something dependable and need informed technical support. I am very disappointed in product.
