Lassie Come-Home 75th Anniversary Edition

This is a lovely edition. Nice size with an attractive cover. My 8 year old grandson loved it.

This is a timeless book. The story is written from Lassie's point of view and tells of her journey from Scotland where she was taken after the family had to sell her due to the father losing his job due to shut-down of the mines he was working in. However, her good breeding and instinct took her back to to them, encountering perils, hunger, and bad weather along the way. However, she never lost focus of the goal ahead. There were some amusing events, some sad events, and nail-biting times. This book appealed to me as a child when my father read it to us, again when I read it myself, again when I read it to my son, and now many years later when I read it for a book club report. It is a book that 75 years after being written is as new today as then.

My brilliant 11-year-old granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed this book (which I gave her as a birthday present)--so much so that she has already read it twice. It was a good bonding thing between us since I read it when I was about her age. I am so glad she loved the story. As a result of reading it in my childhood, I found that "cutting-my-literary-teeth" on the Scottish dialect parts in the book contributed to my overall high literacy ability. It even paved the way for me to be at ease studying Old and Middle English at university.I had to work hard to find the original text. This has it. I recommend it over the "modernized" versions.

I've seen all the Lassie movies without having ever read the book. Actually didn't even know it was a book until fairly recently. The original movie and the recent remake are dead on with the novel-they do not stray from the novel much at all,especially the recent remake. So if you've seen the movies you really don't "need" to read the book. However I would still recommend the novel as there is a bit more to it than the movie and you just can't beat having a book in your hands.

Amazing, beautiful book. Some of the old yorkshire slang language a bit tricky but creates a perfect mental image

This book provides considerable detail and sidelights not seen in the movie. It is an emotional and delightful story for readers of all ages. This is one to add to your library of "comfort fiction" to read again or share with others.

I liked the original text type and illustrations

I read this book as a child and re-read it several times until the old copy began disintegrating. Recently, now aged 72, bought it again, and it is still my overall favourite judged against the many books read in my lifetime. It is a wonderful read and hard to put down. Suitable for any age.

'Lassie' transported me into a bygone era. Its message is that a man's best friend really is his dog. Heartwarming!

Doch siehe da, für die nächsten zwei Tage konnte ich es nicht mehr aus der Hand legen! Schon lange ist mir das nicht mehr passiert. Ich las es in einem Rutsch mit viel Freude und Herzschmerz.Tatsächlich habe ich für so ein kurzes Buch verhältnismäßig viel geweint. So bewegend fand ich die Geschichte von Lassie, der wunderhübschen Collie-Dame, die von ihren Besitzern verkauft werden muss, da es der Familie an Geld fehlt. Lassie jedoch ist es nicht möglich, Duke von Rudling als ihren neues Herrchen anzusehen; diese Position ist in ihren Augen für immer Sam und Joe Carraclough beschieden. Schließlich, nachdem sie mehrmals hintereinander erfolgreich aus dem Zwinger ausgebüchst ist, nimmt der Herzog sie mit auf sein Gut in Schottland und hofft, das Problem sei damit endgültig erledigt.Aber der "Nachhause-Drang" in Lassie ist so groß, dass sie auch die schier unendlich anmutende Entfernung von Schottland nach Yorkshire, ihrer Heimat in Nordengland, nicht abschrecken kann. Denn sie hat einen Job zu erledigen, dessen Erfüllung ihr fast so wichtig ist, wie nach Hause zu kommen: jeden Tag um vier Uhr will sie Joe von der Schule abholen …Eric Knight hat mit "Lassie" eine der schönsten Tiergeschichten geschrieben, die es gibt. Er vermittelt, dass für Liebe kein Weg zu weit ist. Dabei verknüpft er geschickt eine aufregende Handlung, intelligente Beschreibungen des Erlebens und Verhaltens eines Hundes und den Alltag sowie das innerliche make-up der ärmlichen Bevölkerungsschicht von Yorkshire, in deren Kreisen er selbst aufgewachsen ist. Kenner freut es zu lesen, dass in diesem Dialekt immer noch altertümliche Formen wie "thou" and "thee" zum Tragen kommen, die im restlichen englischen Sprachgebrauch ja bereits ausgestorben sind.Wahrlich eine ergreifende, intelligente Geschichte mit wichtigen Moralvorstellungen. Ein Muss für alle Tierliebhaber!
