Expensive, use on Cushings horse as preventative for 10 years (not insulin-resistant/ laminitic).
I've been using Heiro for about 10 years now since we found out he had Cushing's. The thing about Cushing's is that if it goes untreated, it will become worse, and symptoms that weren't there before will start to appear. Such as; a long wavy coat, drinking excess water, sweating, uneven fat distribution along body, taking too long to shed winter coat (or not shedding it at all), laminitis, insulin resistance, etc. This is all due to the irregularity in hormone regulation in the hypothalamus. If left untreated, a tumor may grow unstifled and cause other serious issues. The tumor is located in the brain, pushing on the hypothalamus. Our horse is treated naturally with "Chaste Tree Berry Powder" which has stabilized his ACTH and Insulin levels within normal limits. This horse has never shown severe symptoms other than frequent urination and fat deposit on his crest. Luckily we caught it in time to begin treatment before things got out of hand. HOWEVER, if your horse cannot tolerate Pergolide or is boarded and they forget often, I recommend you switch to Chaste Tree Berry Powder immediately. I've never recommended it to anyone who told me it hasn't worked miracles for their horse.Keep in mind, if your horse is laminitic - you will need to supplement with HEIRO. If your horse has high insulin levels in the spring (you need to draw blood every spring to check these levels), you should give them HEIRO daily - it will work I promise you. Switch your horse to a low-starch low-sugar feed/grain, and refrain from feeding straight alfalfa (50/50 at the most). You need to cut almost all the sugars out of their diet and feed them Heiro daily, and once those insulin levels test normal again, you can start to reintroduce some of those things to them. A horse should enjoy pasture, alfalfa, and cookies occasionally, and with Heiro I promise you will be able to give that to your horse again with some patience and discipline. My horse has had Cushings for 10 years, hes been eating Heiro daily, and has never foundered or been laminitic. He has soft feet, doesnt wear shoes, and Ive never seen him lame a day in my life. (Hes 26). He still gallops around the pasture and snorts his nose at the trees swaying in the wind and enjoys spending all day in the pasture. Now, do I know that my horse would have been laminitic without using Heiro daily? - NO. I could very well be spending 50$ a month the last 10 years for no reason other than peace of mind. However, during the winter months sometimes I slack off, and I dont give him Heiro (since theres no grass) and he does just fine because I have cut all sugary products out of his diet. He gets senior grain and beet pulp mix, and chopped, soaked timothy hay. But when spring comes, you bet im feeding him this every single day without missing a single dose, because that means he gets to enjoy 8-12 hours a day on pasture without issue. If you want peace of mind, 50$/month is a lot less of a price to pay than the possibility of a foundering horse.

Just started
Gelding had slight founder and issue with laminitis. Heavy rains caused grass to grow thick. He only receives pasture once a day for an hour but to be safe started this product. Seems to be helping

Haven't notice it working
It's not showing any results for my horse that was diagnosed with laminitis... I was highly recommended this product but not seeing results as I hoped. Also it's states 90 day supply, I'll be lucky to get 2 months out of the supply with only using the recommended scoop..

Highly recommend - saw improvement in my mare
I really liked this product. Unfortunately my mare had a very advanced case of founder so we lost her after all, but I did see great improvement in her with this supplement!!!

Seems to work
This stuff works, I have had my lusitano on this for over a year and recently put a pony on it that was overweight and getting sore feet. With the addition of Heiro and a grazing muzzle the pony is doing much better. A bit pricey, but if you buy the two pack it is cheaper per serving.

Smells nice.
Bought this on recommendation from my farrier. It smells really nice like chocolate, timothy hay and cinnamon, but after 5 weeks I see absolutely no change in my horses in any way. One horse has foot probs the other weight probs.Although they like the taste and I like the aroma, it costs a whole lot of money for a placebo.I won't buy it again. Not at $50 a container.BTW the container is barely half full when you open it.I would consider this a total rip-off.I gave it 1 star because shipping was quick and it smells nice, not for any other reason.
