Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Case S-View Flip Cover - Black

I tend to prefer cases with covers to protect my phone screen while in transport (typically in a pocket) but of course that prevents seeing alerts as they occur unless I actually open the case. This case is a compromise between a case with no cover and one with a full cover in that it provides protection while simultaneously affording access to alerts without having to open the case. Unfortunately the cover comes without instructions and there is a bit of a learning curve. First, the screen dims a few seconds after closing the cover and the image is replaced by the time, date, battery life remaining and, in my situation, my location's current outdoor temperature. That will display constantly unless the case is opened OR the power button is briefly pressed. For most apps swiping the shortcut results in a prompt to "open cover," meaning that, although the app is launched interacting with it isn't possible while the cover is closed. Exceptions to this seem to be calling, the camera (limited usefulness while cover closed) and music apps. I am able to control my preferred music app without opening the cover, provided I briefly press the power button to reactivate the window. I was initially unaware that I could reactivate the window without opening the cover. Learning that a brief press of the power button will do the same trick was nice. Incoming calls will activate the window also, so you can accept or reject without opening the case. And you can snooze or cancel an alarm without opening the cover.You can change the app shortcuts that appear in the window quite easily. I haven't explored many of them yet beyond email, messaging, calling and camera. Email and text shortcuts weren't particularly helpful as swiping them generated the "open case" notice previously mentioned. Moving forward I'll try some others to see what functionality they afford.My primary concern with the cover is lack of obvious drop protection. I would imagine this cover would provide some protection, but the lid opens quite easily, so unlike other covers with magnetic closure lids, this one is apt to fly open in a fall/drop. I don't often drop my phone, but if you're clumsy you may have an issue with this one.All things considered this is a quite attractive and useful/functional cover and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a propensity to drop their phone regularly...

I used this same sort of S-view case for my Note 4 and liked it so much that I purchased one for my S7 Edge. The two are very similar but not identical. The biggest difference is that the G7 cover snaps to the phone back rather than actually replacing the back panel (fully expected, since the back of the S7 can't be removed...). That said, this design doesn't make the phone feel bulky or cumbersome. The cover can open completely so that the cover lays flat to the back of the phone. This allows for comfortable one-handed use.The cover is light and thin but rigid enough to protect. It s composed of multi-layered vinyl but doesn't feel cheap or "plastic-ey." It is surprisingly soft and smooth to the touch. (My wife described it as leather-like. My administrative assistant described it as velvet without pile.) It has a matted, not glossy finish. The window is clear plastic or perhaps the same sort of tempered glass.The closed-cover allows access to phone, camera, time, visible status bar, and assorted notifications. Most notably, you can answer/reject calls, control your music player (including volume) and take a picture even with the cover shut. (The camera, however, takes a different sized picture when the cover is closed.)This case does not use the "always on" feature of the S7. The window does not show the time unless the side key has been pushed.I use this because I pretty much hate screen protectors and dislike bulky cases (e.g. Spigen, Otterbox). For me, that style of case tends to ruin the feel of the phone. This case is light, slim and gives me the level of protection I need. I would recommend it to people who carry their phone in their pocket and do not need to send a text message every few moments. I don't suggest it for people who jump out of aircraft or enjoy throwing their phone across a room. :) (I do go running with it... I fold the cover back and and it is still slim enough to fit in my arm case.)Parenthetically, I tried the Samsung clear-cover case. This is far superior in look, feel and overall quality. For me, the extra money was well worth it.

This is the first case I bought for my new S7 Edge. There are a lot of nice things about it but it does have a few downsides.Pros:1 - Slim and light. Very easy to carry and does not weigh you down.2 - Fits the phone perfectly as you would expect. Like a glove!3 - Works perfectly with wireless fast charging system4 - I like that you can raise and lower the volume without opening the caseCons:1 - Like other reviews have indicated, once you put this on, the "Always On" display feature does not work.2 - Almost no protection for the phone from drops or smashes. The case is very thing - which has its advantages but also doesn't provide any real protection when outdoors.I would definitely recommend this case and though I now have three cases total, I switch back and forth to this one because I really like how light it is and the fact that it fits perfectly!
