It has a built in microphone. I don't see a plug for an external mic, just earphones.

We're using it to record family oral history onto cassettes. Serves our purpose well.

No, there is only one tape mechanism.

amazon will still accept the return if you have good cause for exceeding the return period. just be polite when you speak to an agent regarding your request.
