Q: We want to use sand bags to hold our boat cover on. Is there any way to attach these to a carabiner?

Yes,the loop on top could be used,or there is a long vertical open strap under that ,which runs down the center.

Q: will it fit a 5 inch round pole ?

I filled gallon sized ziplock bags with sand then inserted ziplock into each sleeve of pouch. Once filled, the straps should be long enough to circle your 5 inch pole.

Q: Can they be left out during snowy winter months?

I have always put mine inside my garage for winter. But they are very durable ,strong and waterproof. I am sure they will be fine outside year round . BUT YOU WILL GET THE LONGEST USE OUT OF THEM IF YOU DIDN'T. If you do not have a way to bring them inside. Then covering them in the winter will help them last longer.
