Can I just add my own citric acid and baking soda instead of using the proprietary packs?

The cost of using your own ingredients is 21 cents, the cost of purchasing packets is 42 cents, per sparkle bottle. I derived the cost using the largest size I was willing to purchase at the lowest cost. The citric acid from amazon, the sodium Bicarb (baking soda) from a local big box store. My main reason for getting a sparkle machine was to control the non-nutritive sweetener in soda (aspartame gives me headaches). The added cost of flavor increases cost to above the purchase price of most generic sodas, but without all the plastic.

1 use per sparkle container or 24 to 25 ounces per packet.

Can this be used in bonne o machine ?

Yes, the Sparkel Carbonators and Bottles are backwards compatible with the former Bonne O system. We do encourage Bonne O users to try the Sparkel system with 5 carbonation levels and faster cycles. Sparkel L2 is similar to the single Bonne O cycle and 2X as fast.
