It will fit. The inside core diameter is 3" so it can fit a tape gun or a small red dispenser. We believe the small red scotch dispenser diameter size is 3" as well. You can measure your dispenser to find out.

Can you tell me the quality of this tape vs book cover tape? I'm a librarian for a small library and looking to minimize costs in covering books.

Actually, though I've purchase this item to use when mailing things in boxes, I have also used it quite a few times to repair a loose binding on an old book on occasion and repair a tear on a book cover. I see no reason for it to not work fine for use on a book cover (jacket or directly on the hard or soft cover) since it works fine on partial covering of a book when I repair a tear.
