Q: My filter came with ceramic, bio balls, activated carbon, and polishing pad. Would this foam be replacing one of those or used along side??

This foam fits in the bottom tray of the canister and replaces what should already be there.

Q: How many millimeters thick is this? I need it for a diy project. So I won't be using it for it's intended purpose.

We do not have that spec. It is approximately 1/2" thick and is 15 ppi.
