Does it remove lime scale?

i would assume so, I havent honestly tried boiling it then putting it through the filter though but it's supposed to remove everything except trace minerals and arsenic I think

You can, although if you want to leave the lid on, the part that holds the filter will have to stay in. You can just take the filter out - the water from the top container will just pour into the main container.

Does it alkalize the water?

Not as far as I know. It is a very effective filter though
