These mitts are my Goldilocks
Update, 1 year later:I love these mitts and will start gifting them. Terrific heat tolerance, ease of use, good grip, and they clean up well. I look forward to many more years of use!Original review:I have been looking for a good heat-resistant potholder for years. Le Creuset was my standby for most of a decade but they fray after a couple of years and all too soon they got stains that wouldn't come out. I stored them in the drawer and replaced them every couple of years even though it seemed they were getting pricier. In the meantime I looked at other potholders but I didn't want silicon (it's a dust and grease magnet for me) and other potholders were either too thin (not heat resistant enough for me to carry hot plates to the dining room) or poorly sized (too small to get on quickly, or too large to use without getting the mitt in the food). The Jane Domestic potholders are my Goldilocks. I heard about them on Apartment Therapy and that convinced me to give them a chance in spite of the mediocre reviews here. What I like:* Truly grab-and-go. Pockets on both sides mean no fumbling to find the right way to put them on.* Good size.* Slightly longer middle layer protects the inside of my wrist.* Heat resistant enough that I can carry a dish to the table and be patient while people (re-)clear space for the hot plate.* Flexible enough for me to get a good grip, and firm enough to avoid flopping into food.* Stains (even a grease spill!) clean up better than expected so far.* Looks nice enough to leave hanging visible on the wall.Wait-and-see:* Longterm durability? Only had them a few weeks at this point.* Patina? It does get a few light-colored lines here and there where it's held an especially hot pan. So far the marks blend in nicely with the suede and are only visible up close. It seems like good leather.I plan to ditch my other potholders. Even my husband likes these mitts, and he's been trying for years to get me to use his heat-resistant gloves. Thanks Apartment Therapy and Jane Domestic!

Beautifully Impractical?
I asked for these as a Christmas gift after seeing them promoted by the Apartment Therapy people. Alas, while I still love how they look I strongly doubt they'll age as wonderfully as I thought. They're super prone to marks, stains, etc. from the most limited of use so I'd hate to see what my excessive baking does to them this winter.

Finally, something that works.
Life is full of gimmicks. the better mousetrap, magnets to make your car more fuel efficient, all sorts of goofiness. pot holders too... I have thrown away all my relic potholders in favor of two of these and a pair of full silicone glovesย [2015 VERSION] Silicone BBQ Oven Cooking Gloves, Heat Resistant Grill Gloves and Pot Holders - High Temperature 425 Degrees [2 Gloves ] that i received as a gift. These mitts work great, have never felt any heat through the mitt and it is very flexible so you can firmly grasp any pan from your oven without fear of dropping it. As for those silicone gloves??? While they are completely heat resistant, you cant get them on and off very easily. I have slid those to the back of the drawer, unlikely to be used.

An investment potholder but so worth it!
I've had leather potholders in the past and for some reason lost track of them and fell back to cloth ones. I've tried silicone ones too. When I saw these, I pounced. I like these a lot! They are very attractive so can be used as trivets for a casual serving style. The hanging loop is generous and makes it easy to hang them. The insulation is first rate - no more burns for me - the size is good too. I wear a size 8 women's glove so don't have the smallest hands. This protects my hands and my wrist.

loyalty in the kitchen
truly fantastic oven mitts. i ordered one a while ago and have fallen in love with it. while my two cuisinart mitts have fallen apart (shards of rubber flaking off into god knows where!), this sturdy fella has showed no signs of slowing down. as a matter of fact, i bake breads using cast iron in an oven over 475 degrees and i never feel like i have to rush when removing and replacing the piping hot pots. so here i am again. i logged back on to buy two this time. because i like loyalty in the kitchen, and i know from experience that these sturdy mitts will never leave me. thank you, jane domestic, for making something so beautiful, useful, and durable.

Beautiful But Not Very Functional ๐
The product is beautifully made, very high quality and looks great; however it is not very functional. Because of the thickness and stiffness of the leather suede, the holds are not very nimble to allow for proper holding of hot oven pots and pans as you place and remove them from the oven.

Good item would buy it again, but...
One it takes forever to ship/receive even for a prime item (star reduction). I ordered two, a black and burnt orange both items they sent were black (star reduction). Product itself, zero complaints will use it and buy it again when needed.

Unwieldy and pink
I find myself reaching for my ratty old cloth pot holders and oven mitt rather than this one again and again. This morning I tried it one more time and dropped the whistle on the tea kettle because the suede is too thick to grasp it with. Very disappointing. It also became stained the first time I used it, so it looks almost as bad as my old cloth ones. It is also a light dusty rose, rather than the dark brown shown in the picture.
